Not to get too off topic. but I have shot a Uzi. In an indoor range with the target run all the way out I could hardly keep 3 rounds on a silhouette target due to the climb. On the other hand, it was pretty easy to dump a mag on the same size target at the same distance from an MP5. IMHO, the Uzi is a poorly designed firearm but I guess they are iconic.

Now imagine it’s not every day and someone else’s job is to ensure the safety of this equipment that you know very little about.

It's 3rd generation open bolt design. Crude by modern standards.

The UZI with the non folding wooden stock shoot a bit better.

I actually prefer the m16 to sub guns. Less recoil, more power and range.

MG, if I had to guess what happened, I'd first try to figure out why there was a live round even remotely close to the set, and here's what I think: They're up there in Santa Fe with open space to play around in. The studio provided real guns so when they weren't filming these took those guns out to the desert to shoot them. Either Baldwin or someone else left a live round in the gun, or, and this is unlikely, when they were done shooting in the desert someone took a live round they had left over and tossed it in with the blanks. The way Baldwin is losing his cookies over this, I'd put my money on he was the one shooting in the desert, he was the one who left a live bullet chambered, and he is certainly the one to point the gun at someone and pull the trigger.

This would be a good Columbo episode had this been a planned murder.

Heard something fishy on the drive home.

Apparently the film crew had gone on strike and walked out the day before this happened.

And the gun has "misfired" 3 times before the fatal shot?

    Not adding up.

No crew means they weren't filming. Not filming means Baldwin went and got the gun, loaded it, and the rest is history

I just read that the assistant director.handed him the loaded gun.

Could be true, could be someone getting thrown under the bus.

Apparently Baldwin was the co producer of the movie which may have legal repercussions.

This guy talks about New Mexico law.

Production crew on the set of Rust walked out on Thursday morning in a row over hotel rooms and long hours

They had wanted to be put up in Sante Fe, near the ranch where the movie was being shot, but instead were staying in Albuquerque, an hour away, and were too tired to drive every night after long shifts

On Thursday, when they arrived to pack up, they found a team of local workers waiting to replace them

Halyna Hutchins decided to stay on the set and film with Alec Baldwin and the film director Joel Souza

She had been advocating on behalf of her team for better working conditions

At 1.50pm, Baldwin fired a prop gun which he thought contained blank rounds

The projectile pierced through Hutchins' chest and also struck the director behind her, who survived

Hutchins was airlifted to the hospital but she was pronounced dead; there are now claims there were two other incidents earlier in the film's shooting

Deadline cites an unnamed source who says a gun fired while someone was holding it in a cabin

Union rules stipulate that no live rounds are ever to be used on a film set - the replacement crew are not believed to be union members

    Unconfirmed...

2 other rumors, the woman he shot was carrying Baldwins baby, and the union may have introduced the ammo to teach Baldwin and the scabs a lesson...

It was clearly a live round if it went through her and into the director behind her. As weird as it sounds, her death may have saved the life of whichever actor he was supposed to fire that gun at. Not saying one life is better than the other, just it would have to be a weird feeling for that person to know it almost was them.

    YOU hold a gun

The results are on the "person holding the gun".
    Yet not for VP Cheney.

I bet the gipper would examined his "guns"

From what I read and posted earlier, Hollywood uses angles to their advantage to make it look like a gun is pointed at someone but really isn’t.

I forget the name of the movie where a person has a gun pointed right at him, there’s no mistaking it. But it was one of those bloopers where you can see a piece of protective glass between the gun and the victim.

Alec Baldwin is well known for his very vicious temper. I hope that the prosecutor keeps that in mind.

My first thought was that he was set up. Revenge for his attack on that guy who accidentally shot someone (plus all his other anti-gun stuff). Poetic justice, as it were.

If there was chaos on that set - strikes and whatever ... well, maybe crazier things have happened.

    Yeah I don't think a blank would.do that.

It sounds like they were rehearsing to get shooting (film) angles.

Alec Baldwin was told prop gun was safe before fatal shooting on set, affidavit says

"Alec Baldwin didn't know the prop gun that he fired was loaded with live ammunition and neither did the assistant director who handed it to him before the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the “Rust” film set Thursday, a search warrant document says."

Reports are coming out indicating that staff were quitting on this set.......due to inadequate safety guards ....

The Gipper used to carry a revolver to protect him from commies in California and even prevented the rape of a nurse by pointing it out of his 2nd story apartment in his Hollywood days.

Yes he has assaulted numerous people and the tapes of him screaming at his daughter are pretty bad.

On that note, can a violent criminal legally have access to real firearms to film a movie?
