There is a little boy...I believe he is in a house in winterhold who wants the dark brother hood to kill the headmaster of an orphanage in Riftin. You can either kill the headmaster first or talk to the boy first. But doing both will start the dark brother hood questline.

Yes. It could be Windhelm too. I know it started with a W.

Yes, I think Windhelm is correct...

    EDIT: Go to Riften...

Yeah, I always get the different cities mixed up. Whiterun, Windhelm, Winterhold. To many (*)(*)(*)(*) W's!

To reiterate, since I put it in an edit, sources tell me it's actually Riften where you start up the Thieves' Guild thing...

You can go there to get the quest, but you don't have to.

    Oh gotcha...

That's where I started it, so, I figured that was the go-to...

    Thanks for clarifying...

I was in Windhelm with one of my characters one day, and I over a little boy and his nanny talking about whatshisname doing the ritual. A quest note popped up on my screen to let me know to investigate. Even with my good characters, I'm still tempted to do it just because the old hag at the orphanage pisses me off.....but I don't. I'm not sure if I feel regret over that or not.

So what race do you normally play as? The Redguards are my favorite although I beat Oblivion with a Breton.

I'm currently using a Redguard myself, but, this is my first playthrough...

    I think I'll use a Khajiit next go-round...

    Sneakiness will prevail...

My Imperial is my assassin/mage, my Redguard is my warrior. I'm thinking about playing as an Orc next, but he would come off to much like my Redguard so I don't know about that.

Yeah, Orc=Redguard for the most part, at least from my POV...

    Both brawler types...

The Imperial is pretty good though?

lol I actually killed the old hag without even receiving a quest lol. She was a horrible person and all those kids were so sad and they were suffering.

When I found the boy he thought I was so cool because I killed her without him even asking.

ty iv killed the orphanage lady before for the kid i guess i just didn’t wait long enough

i like Bretons for the magic resistance with the right alchemy and enchanting perks and the lord stone and the blessing of marra form riften temple quests you don’t need to worry much about magical damage or waist any stats on MP and stamina

I'm trying to buy the house in Riften right now (mission where you take out the skooma dealers), but the game failed to register when everyone in the cavern place was killed and now I can't go anywhere with it. Grrr...

The game was enjoyable, a long way from great but still some fun and I did not feel like I threw away the circa $60 it cost.

The combat was nothing special, a bit of a struggle until about level 15, then pretty much easy past that point. All in all, just an average game that put too much effort and emphasis on graphics. I tried to be a pure mage the second time I played, but the mage died way too easily and I ended up going back to being a warrior with magic.

Turn based strategy and war games are my preferred genre, and those genres are all but gone thanks to consoles and the requirement that games be both PC and console compatable.

my pure mage was my 1st character i like magic in my fantasy did not do so well but back then i didn’t max enchanting if you can get your destruction and alteration spell costs down to 0 with that offense and defense becomes a lot easier as a mage and you can get away with only adding health downside is you can’t reduce both schools cost down to 0 and keep magic resistance which is one of my favorite enchantments
Though if you go Breton do the temple of mara quests and find the lords guardian stone and get right alteration perks you can reduce a lot of magic damage that way leaving you free to spam mage armor spells and destruction all you want

wait i may be telling a lie you may need to add some skill points to alchemy to get spell cost in one or 2 schools down to 0 cant remember if a grand soul gem and 100 in enchantments will do it on its own without a portion of fortify enchantment

After my second playthrough of Skyrim (My first was pure annoyance i gave up to delve into Dark souls)

I am pleasently suprised at the concept of the game.
