Amazing. Lust for fighting derailed this thread on the first page.

Yes humans are animals, AND we are far more driven by instincts than most want to admit.

Yes humans are animals...the only reason this is even a question is because we are the only animals with a developed enough consciousness to even ask a question like that...

THANK YOU! ****** it took long enough for someone to point out the vast, gaping hole in the appallingly racist argument being put by the self-proclaimed non-racist.

All humans are the same species. A species of primate. Humans have a diversity of physical appearance, as do many other species. Different colored horses, cats, dogs, cows, birds etc. of the same species don't seem to have a problem mixing. No reason humans of different appearance should.

The OP is either very, very confused or trying to justify prejudice with a spectacularly bad & ill informed argument.

OK, you aren't confused, just really dumb. Ever heard of contraception? very popular in every society where it is available. Even people whose religions specifically forbid contraception use it regularly. Still want to go with the '99%' figure, or is this where you do a backflip & claim that sex using contraception is still 'to produce offspring' even if the people involved have gone out of their way to make sure it isn't.

until we can communicate with other animals we don't know what they can conceptualize...observations indicate elephants are highly intelligent and recognize death and suffer PTSD...Dolphins have language, they give themselves distinct names, speak in sentences wth!...we judge intelligence and self awareness by our standards and not how another species may see it...and until recently no one had any idea giraffes communicated by sound, the sound was such a low frequency humans couldn't hear it...

The Octopus is particularly interesting in this regard and others, blue blood and unique DNA almost make it an alien intelligence.

and observed to be very intelligent, recognizing individual humans and possess problem solving skills, quite likely smarter than dogs...probably best not to think about that if you like eating them... culturally we don't see boneless squishy animals as equal to mammals or birds...

Not equal...but we do not consider other humans as equal either. I eat a very many non-human animals, many of which are uniquely intelligent. Call me an equal opportunity carnivore.

You eat whales and elephants? Those are the only non-humans I think of as particularly intelligent.

I eat Cows, Chickens, Pigs, fish, mollusks, and the occasional non traditional animal meat. Each oh these creatures have their own unique intelligence before they are slaughtered for my consumption. People outside my country eat many more animals, including Dogs, Monkeys, dolphins...etc....and few bother to give it a second thought. I personally would not enjoy eating cetacean or simian flesh because of MY perception of intellect and my bias based on it. It is however likely the animals I do eat are intelligent in their own way but, I have accepted my position and put such things aside in order to survive.

yeah racists attempting to use science to backup their bigotry...the problem with that is the science is already verified that it's BS but they won't accept that ...

That wasn't your question, though. You asked "ARE humans animals?", not 'are humans LIKE animals?'

it's hard to fight the food culture you're brought up with...salmon, shrimp and pork are my weaknesses...almost zero beef in my diet...

humans are merely sentient terrestrial animals as our dna attests. We are at the apex of the animal kingdom.

Animals have many of the same emotions like we do, many animals are "self aware", some animals have creative problem solving abilities, some animals can think abstractly. Some animals wage war. Some animals murder. Some animals rape and abuse.

To think otherwise is nothing but typical human conceit.

It more a case of sheer numbers and frequency of contact. I don't even recall running into this particular creature before. I probably have, but there are days when this place feels like I well known Supremacist website beginning with S. maybe we need a tagging system. ;)

Which explains why they are so crap at science. Bit like some of our more religious bretheren, who don't believe in the scientific method, but insist that they have scientific proof of stuff.

I'm the opposite. I don't touch Pork, Chicken, or Seafood (apart from fish). All are 'scavengers' and therefore not fit for human consumption (IMO).

I was raised vegetarian, but do occasionally eat high quality lean beef, and deep water (cold climate) fish.
