I kind of disagree. I think Nick Cage is a great actor. He has chosen some pretty bad movies to star in, but he's pretty good. Some of my favorites are Lord of War, and Face/Off.

Oh aye. Nicholas Cage is great. Someone I've recently rediscovered is William Shatner of the original Star Trek television series. His role in that was to accurately portray how a star ship captain just might act and react under certain circumstances and he nailed it for the era. Jean Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) did so as well for his role, but it was a different era and would NOT have worked in the Shatner era.

Anyway I think that Shatner has gotten a bum rap as an actor for some of his later roles. But that's just my opinion.

    Leonardo DiCaprio

The guy could party, tare up Hollywood with his drinking buddies, and sell tickets as the strong sensitive type because he is such a great acting talent, perfect for Titanic and even Romeo & Juliet, this actor even done Shakespeare.

Then let us not forget What's Eating Gilbert Grape? where he portrayed autism well, or The Wolf of Wall Street and his performance of a self induced paraplegic trying to rush home.
    The Basketball Diaries too...

I haven't seen him as the slave owner yet in Django Unchained, but I have heard the story of how he accidentally cut his hand during a take and still successfully worked with it, blood pouring out too.

iv never liked watching Nicholas Cage. He's got a whiny weak aura about him that turns me off.

Tom Hanks is one of the greats too, like how he piled on the pounds for Cast Away then shed them for Cast Away... I haven't seen Philadelphia (yet), but I heard how that was demanding.

Michael J. Fox too, for his work on Back To The Future while shooting Family Ties....
The role of Marty McFly had a lot of running (which is fun) but then in one stunt gone wrong, he passed out at the end of a hoist or something hanging from the neck.
The guitar part's just a bonus, but as far as bonuses go, this had it, and he even brushed up on his guitar performing for Back To The Future.
... And he had to do all this after a day of filming Family Ties.

Bad (but I still like it): Christopher Lloyd can only do one speed, and that's Christopher Lloyd, I'd shout this entry at you, so you could understand more of what I mean.

Well there is the obvious.... Tom Hanks. Probably one of the most versatile actors out there.
But other than the must of saying him, I would like to say one of the less obvious.

Michael Shannon... Boardwalk Empire role was a masterpiece.

Not sure your criteria for a bad actor. You have several Oscar winners on your list.
