At home, I have Jamaican food from time to time, in Amsterdam, when I first went, I found a Suriname place, it's not the same as Jamaican food. I like Jamaican food much better found in the UK than the Suriname Food I found in the NL. Rice & Peas with Jerked Chicken. Ackee and salt fish (pictured here with a side of coleslaw). If it's "Ital" it means it's veggie/vegan friendly. Patties I like cornmeal porridge. I'm not too fond of plantain and I've never even had goat's milk or goat's cheese little lone curried goat, but I can have curried goat if I want to, I just haven't wanted to; something about it being goat to me; IDK, is that normal to think goat food products aren't 'normal for you?'.. Well anyway, there's curried goat too if you're into that. TBH, there's so much, snacks 'water crackers' 'coconut based candy', cakes 'spice bun' (hard dough bread too), fish dishes like shredded balls of fish fried up and this one unique dish from a place in Crystal Palace that I really liked with like callaloo and ackee and all these Caribbean flavours on tagliolin called 'Rasta Pasta' - I like Mac N' Cheese too. I don't drink soda anymore, but I used to love Ginger Beer, Lilt (Lilt was this UK pineapple and grapefruit soda) etc.. So much.. I also like fresh mango fruit; we have mango, sweet potatoes, yams, and coconuts next to the pineapples and mango at the supermarket in Thornton Heath. Have you ever had Caribbean food?
That Caribbean place I found in Amsterdam near The Red Light District.. The whole place had a fusion feel to it, and I just found it on google.. (Look out Yelp, here I come)..
Turns out, according to Yelp; I had Indonesian food at a Suriname place in Amsterdam and didn't like it. That brown starch at the top of the picture; Only now do I realise what I thought was Dutch Caribbean food wasn't.
There's this corn chip that I like called Chee Zees that you can buy in Thornton Heath made Trinadad & Tabago. It looks like one we have in the UK called Nik-nak but is better quality and probably more fattening. & my favourite flavour; I took a bunch of these to Amsterdam, NL with me amongst other snacks for the road trips to & from London, UK last year because its like £0.40 or 3 for £1.00.
I think I've had jerk chicken before, but it could have been something else. Other than that, I don't think I've had any other Caribbean food.
Puerto Rican food is outstanding: jibarito sandwich (equivalent of a po' boy): bistek, arroz, y habicuelas (beef strips, rice, & brown beans): stuffed potato: pasteles (meat pie): season and lace it with any type of sauces or toppings that you like - mmmm, mmmm!!
Love this place. Love this place; what I love about this place is their Jerk Chicken, Stew Chicken and Pepper Steak.
