We're just now starting to have multiple countries bring planeloads of citizens back from Wuhan.

China knew about the virus for about 40 days before they shut down Wuhan. They had people visiting Wuhan from all over China and the world for the "Spring Festival Culture Benefitting the People Campaign". Millions of people visited Wuhan and went back home before the city shut down.

I should note that nearly all food service workers in American have no sick days benefits and must work while sick otherwise they will lose a day's wage. 50 million people worldwide died from the Spanish flu.

We have to keep in mind how the flu traveled to America once it had mutated the ability to infect by human to human contact. Our own military is the perfect delivery system for a flu epidemic arriving from the Middle East with soldiers.

American soldiers traveling back and forth to America--soldiers and contractors under the stress of war--spread the Spanish Flu in the American population. 675,000 Americans were killed by the Spanish Flu during 1918-1919 as infected soldiers returned from the war front creating wave after wave of new infections with each arrival of war weary soldiers. This is an ideal environment for the spread of the flu: a transportation system to carry the virus from the many battlefields of the Middle East to every Main Street America where 46 million people, or more have no health insurance.

The Washington D.C Mafia-Fascist Whorehouse has no plan except maybe using the military to arrest the sick. The Republicans and corporate Democrats have been fighting comprehensive health care for 90 years. Where is the benefit of the Trillions of dollars spent for national security? America is involved with 134 wars worldwide. Meanwhile, U.S, for-profit hybrid Hospital/Banks are not preparing for any pandemic while other forces are aligning for a possible pandemic delivered in waves to us all by our own military. U.S. drug stores overcharge even for band aids. Pandemics are not profitable...yet.

China has saturated the media with propaganda reports of their efforts to quarantine the flu, but this is impossible for millions of people. In other words, they are pre-announcing their efforts before the pandemic goes worldwide.

 

I also have a 4 month supply of food and have a bit more on order. I use a .357 rifle, a single shot shotgun and 2 .32 H&R magnum revolvers. I have not listed .22's of which we have a few. The great pandemic sort of played out like this. It hit a city, peaked in about a week-10 days, then burned itself out and hit a new city. While the pandemic lasted almost a year it seldom lingered for more than a month in any local place.

LOL! I think this is one of the few instances where even the most hardened Trump supporters trust the hated government (FDA) over RW crackpot websites. I think it is pretty much common sense that drinking bleach is not good for you, even if you don't understand the science behind it.

 

I think much the same thing will happen with Corona. Pretty much gone in about six weeks.

The CDC has 5 confirmed cases in the U.S., but is showing that 26 states have patients being investigated for the virus.

I wonder how many Americans home sick as a dog, with no insurance, no sick time and scared of getting fired if gone for a day or two, aside than the 73 of the pending!

Plus the USA has 20+ states have denied the ACA option for the poor to get basic health care. Watch for those to be a hidden cache of illness. We won't those until the customers of places like Walmart will be finally noticed.

I’d be giving the Japanese inventors a call and ask for help. There is no practical rationally way to the the spread of a flu virus that is highly contagious two weeks before symptoms appear. They need a treatment and a vaccine, and way, way, way, better hygiene and sanitation standards at their open air meat markets.

At the very least I’d be calling those Japanese scientists.

As to the free market: It’s purpose is free trade not deadly contagious disease containment. However, it’s fundamental principle of freedom of thought will provide a cure, treatment, and prevention before any government bureaucrat’s proclamations or politician’s promises will...as China is aptly demonstrating.

 

From what I understand, anyone who has travelled back to the U.S. from Wuhan gets quarantined in a hospital anywhere from a few days to up to 2 weeks. The unknown right now is that 5 million people travelled to Wuhan and then left the city during 40 days after China knew the virus existed and before locking down the city. We've only been screening people coming from Wuhan, not from the rest of China.

 

The U.S. State Dept increased the travel alert on Monday for the "the rest of China" to Level 3 - Reconsider Travel. Wuhan is at Level 4 - Do Not Travel.

We also increased the number of airports where the CDC is screening people from 5 to 20. They have been letting people coming from China (except Wuhan city) with no fever or symptoms go on about their way with only a card telling them what symptoms to watch for.

 

It's apparently not "just" the flu. It's a novel virus.

The U.S. Health Dept is working with China, WHO and regional CDC offices on "risk assessment". The virus DNA has been isolated so they are already working on a vaccine....which could be developed quickly, but take 6 months or more to get through all the red tape to get approved. There is a rapid-response test kit to detect the virus.

This is kind of boring, but the Health and Human Services Dept provided a 45 minute update yesterday. I don't find it terribly comforting. My take on what they're saying is "We're still trying to figure things out, but in the meantime, don't worry about it too much."

 

Its is already not "a" virus, there seems to be strains that are having some mutation, along with possible strains may already have differences from last month.

Much like seasonal flu virus strains, they are ever a moving target. And a month or two of having a vaccine is optimistic beyond anything that have normally been done. Ebola was pretty fast, but there were years of study, and 6 months of vaccine prep once it was able to be manufactured. Wouldn't seeing more of those kinds of faster times! Of course the initial batches will be more expensive than people who have work for a living!

This is encouraging. Though the numbers of cases being investigated is increasing, and they are now testing people in 36 states, the number of confirmed cases has stayed flat at five.
