I lived in China for over a decade, the freedoms of the average person on a day-to-day basis are essentially the same. The US detains terror suspects; where would the US invade China? Where can it? China has more than enough to repel American forces long enough in conventional warfare.

That's laughable. Even the UN sees Israel as having a worse human rights' record. People get massacred once in a generation in China; it happens daily in Israel.

Nobody ever said they were. But for the average person, you can't simply call it totalitarian or whatever you deemed it. The problem you have is with the people and culture, not the government. That can easily be proven by asking you what you find fault with in terms of social limitations.

Where do I begin? As an American I will not tolerate a nation who does not believe in inalienable rights for it's citizens. Your employer banned movies about reincarnation because the stories fantasize about better lives. China is a sad joke and Asia belongs to India.

There's actually a constitution you should read then.

The latter was a means of prohibiting propaganda by the Tibetan hierarchy.

India doesn't stand a chance, their government is bumbling for action— their people have less than a third the freedom or money that Chinese have; and every western nation is looking to China in the IMF and WB, not India.

India started with a higher GDP after WW2. China was devastated from the war. China went through civil war, and yet still came out on top by a long-shot with a comparable land-size and population. India's leadership isn't capable of improving the nation— their wealth gap is getting bigger four times as fast as China's.

And yet as a democracy, India is a lot more stable. But nice of you to admit that China believes Asia belongs to them. So much for a defensive military? Perhaps the PRC should demand a refund on your paychecks?

India, a democracy? Laughable. Their democracy is more corrupt than trial at Guantanamo Bay.

China doesn't 'own' Asia, but Asia's future is in China; Japan and South Korea have showed that as well.

And yet here is what Freedom House has to say about China

    http://www.freedomhouse.org/template.cfm?page=22&year=2010&country=7801

    Now India

    http://www.freedomhouse.org/template.cfm?page=363&year=2010&country=7840

    And Israel

    http://www.freedomhouse.org/template.cfm?page=22&year=2010&country=7845

But that's somehow an American, Jewish, Hindu conspiracy? They don't make propagandists like they used to.

Because certain things weigh heavier than others; as they should not under obvious scrutiny.

China's one-child policy is the reason China's starving are less than a third of India's. It's also extremely popular and not restrictive whatsoever. But it's considered a violation.

Internet censors are extremely popular. They're even in South Korea, Japan, and so forth. But that's a human rights violation.

And so forth. It's a matter of perspective. Something most here don't have and I don't expect you to either. It's difficult to understand a foreign culture.

I've spent considerable time in foreign countries, that's why I can say with confidence China is an oppresive (*)(*)(*)(*) hole.

Yet you then know nothing of Chinese culture. How can you claim oppression; why do you? Why do you claim oppression for others?

Be your own defendant, not someone else's.

No. I will stand up for those who don't have a voice. Every man, woman, and child deserves to live free. I figured somebody from the People's Republic would understand that.

People can stand on their own; they don't need you. If they did, they'd ask. Freedom is subjective, and in many respects, unwanted by most.

We'll see. It'll be free, or China will be forced to fight the worst insurgency in modern history. Good luck

China won't fight. that's the follow of the Western view— it must come down to violence or threats.

Economic entanglement is the way things are done in the East.

That's laughable. The economy and government that worked with the Chinese on the stimulus. The economy where instability and low growth is seen for the next decade. Sure.

Employment goes over 8% and you have thousands being bused around pretending like they understand politics demanding change.

China has trillions in reserve to pad its market; something Japan didn't have. Attacking China's market with exotic derivatives won't do anything but destroy the West.

The last I heard, Israel is not controlling all internet traffic through their own government filters.

And one guy I work with is married to a Chinese national. He has been trying to get her permission from that government to move to the US for over 5 years now, with no luck so far.

I can't imagine it is that hard to immigrate from Israel. And the last I heard, Israel does not execute people like China does.

And yet the people support and want that filter; so it's not an issue. China doesn't have constant, daily riot police gassing and shooting civilians like Israel does.

    That's irrelevant.

Except Israel has committed assassinations time and time again.
