You are definitely on the wrong path here. "Appearing guilty" isn't a crime. I show the bank my ID because I'VE SELECTED to do business with them. The bankers don't chase me down on the street and threaten to cage me if I don't give them my ID. They ask me for my ID WHEN I VISIT THEM. I can leave any time I want. They won't use physical force against me if I don't show my ID. Same goes for businesses that require vax cards. This was a public space. The "suspect" (and he wasn't even a suspect) had no legal obligation to show his ID.

You can't say you respect their right to not show in one breath and then still say it was okay to jail them for not doing so in the next.

Lol, dude, keep hiding behind semantics if you want to. Feel free to rejoin us the moment you are able to discuss the topic, though.

Don't need to reread the thread to know what my rights are when being illegally detained by a pig.

If they are open carrying in way that is legal in their state, then no, the cop has no right, duty, or obligation to force an ID from the person.

What part of reasonable suspicion do you not understand? If a crime has been committed somewhere, why wouldn't someone want to help the police in their search? This kind of thing shows me that these idiots are more concerned about getting their feelings hurt than for actually helping people. When you get your car stolen and there was a possible witness but no one knows who they are in order to get more details, you can thank these idiots.

Which is the only reason you all are still defending the cop.

When his superior says he was wrong, the police said they had to correct him, and you STILL defend him, yea.

The suspicion has to be articulable and reasonable. Neither was true here. If my car gets stolen, then no, I don't want the cops to have the authority to just detain anyone who approaches the area later against their will and with no concern for their rights.

In the words of anyone who cares about liberty and doesn't share the love for authoritarianism: might doesn't make right.

Ive been asked for my ID before by the police and hadn't done anything wrong.

Some people go out looking for problems, and when they find them they play the victim. Nah, no thanks. That's some next level bullshit. These people need to be ignored.

Who was detained against their will? If I read the story correctly, the dude said, “Take me to jail” That seems to be "his will."

And you would have had the right to refuse. If the cops put you in a cage for refusing, they'd be the problem. Not you.

Like the cops you are defending.

Like the cops you are defending.

Rights shouldn't be ignored, and you defending the illegal removal of those rights is bullshit.

The cop threatened jail. He had no right or authority to do that.

Post a story about a white person in the same situation and my opinion will be the same.

For me having all of my rights being removed, I have never seen the back seat of a police car.

Getting into a pissing match with the police is not activism, it's stupidity.

If the defenders had their way, the couple would already be in prison for stealing the vehicle, no evidence or trial needed.

Conjecture! I thought you were against it? Or does this only apply to law enforcement ;)
