First off school rules are not laws! Please show me a law where a student has to give up non violent property. Secondly, if she committed no crime these officers have no right to touch the student or detain her for any reason. A lawyer is going to have a field day with this.
Because they deal with ALL disruptive issues............. This girl is a "victim" of her own stupidity.
Really? Has it come to this in America that your schools need to employ police to enforce minor infringements of school rules? Nazi Germany I can understand, but a country which prides itself as a fair democracy? Words almost fail me...this is pathetic, sad and troubling in equal measure.
they've apparently set the bar quite low for hiring...the high school where my son goes to next year has a single cop stationed for security, his job is to ensure no unauthorized people enter the school, and watch for gang activity/violence/crime, act as advisor to the students and not as enforcer for minor discipline issues...when stationed in the school they're not even called police officers but "resource officers" , a resource to be used by the students ...the mind set and approach is totally different to that in the OP.. http://issuu.com/calgaryjournal/docs/feb2014/8
Yes, this is what happened when Administrators lost control of the schools Most of the schools with full time cops, are not the best of schools...............kids these days have lost all respect
I'm sure her cussing, threatening to whip the principal's ass, causing a disruption to the learning of others are all not mentioned in this article. I'm sure she just did passive resistence.
Assualt? or ASSAULT?!?!? Fail. Assault involves a criminal charge AND conviction. What you got? Hysterics.
Notice how she semed to think that since she didnt "want" to give them her cell phone, that she didnt need to give them her cell phone? - - - Updated - - - Nah, just put your face onto the floor, making you look the fool.
See, in my day I would have been sent home for something like this, and would have to have explained to my parents why I acted like a dick. The police would have laughed if my school had called them for something as pathetic as this incident. Two big tough cops are necessary to 'restrain' a 70 pound female child? Only in America, folks...
Police safety, and more importantly citizen safety, centers on a society of rule of law. Follow the fing rule or change the fing rule. It's all on you.
Which is why at the moment she was getting the embarrassment of her life..............she was on the phone with MOMMY!!! in my day...........my ass would have gotten busted twice...............once at school, and again at home. This is just another prime example of the pussification of Amerika
So you think a 70 pound year old girl on a cellphone in a school hallway ... is posing a danger to police.... lol yikes.
Oh forcrissakes give it up! Nobody was in any danger here; a small kid was jumped on by two burly cops because she broke a school rule. I know conservatives just love to worship authority but, seriously, read back what you just wrote and tell me it isn't absurdly authoritarian. "Police safety"!
well you definitely get what you pay for...I looked up those HISD school cops in OP, they have starting wage of 35k.... the starting wage of our cops is 60k and goes up to 200k getting hired here is difficult, they take only the best...the OPs cops sound like theyre no better than mall cops...
Well, y'know, she might have thrown that deadly projectile with unerring accuracy and, and, it could have like, lodged in the cop's throat, choking him to death. And then, guess what, a murder rap! Yes, It's all becoming clear now and she is just a small cog in a liberal conspiracy to destroy America by disrupting classes. Ignorance by stealth will be bred into America, making you easier to invade... *Sigh* (Edited for a poor attempt at sarcasm and humour)
It's NOT ABOUT HOW THIS ONE SITUATION WORKED OUT! It's about disrespect for lawful authority. You will degrade MY society with every event. This is how crapstorms like Fergeson, MO get lit up.
You certainly implied it, and I'm evidently not the only one who noticed. Why else would you start talking about "police safety" if not to suggest that, somehow, the girls was a potential danger to the cops?
And when she resfused to comply with the instructions of the Principle and becomes belligerent the police are called and when she refuses to hand over the phone to them she take her into custody. That's the way it works, the principle does not have to put up with such belligerence and refusal to comply with the rules of conduct at the school. And her parents supported her NOT the school so what would calling the parents have accomplished?
Anytime the police are taking someone into custody there is a threat the person could attempt to harm them especially one that is refusing to cooperate. They taught her a valuable lesson that refusing to comply with legal authority over you, as the school has as the police have, will not be a pleasant experience and your comfort will not be their concern when you become belligerent.
