If it was spreading unknown and untested for a while, we may have already had a number of deaths caused by it???

No bigger deal than the flu and all the Washington deaths had preexisting conditions. It's a very bad cold.

Correct. It's just the media being the media, peddling irrational fear.

They don't freak out nigh as much about the flu, which kills tens of thousands of people in the USA every single year. They just say "get your flu shot!".

Well, to this, I say... "get your corona shot!"... No, really, have a shot of Corona! Be merry! Life is too short for irrational fear.

The quote is "The Democrats are politicizing the virus...it is their new hoax." Even if you can view that quote and think it is perfectly clear what he meant, it is a really ****ing dumb idea for the president to use the word hoax while referring to any aspect of the virus. There will be a segment of the population that sees the quote and think he meant that either the virus itself is a hoax or will think the severity of the threat is a hoax. And then a segment of that group will actually trust the lying moron.

But what does it mean to call the Democrat criticism a hoax? That doesnt tell me anything about the virus or the attempts to mitigate its threat.

And thus they are unintentionally spreading the virus further.

That is a bad thing because the next person might not experience a cold.

It means "quit listening to the hysterical Democrats and the fear mongering media and listen to the CDC and Trump instead and use a little common sense". That's what it means.

Regardless if it's severity or ultimate death rate it has already had a huge financial effect on the world economy. The oil industry has taken a huge hit as world demand has fallen off a cliff which may have a huge effect on frackers why have highly leveraged companies, recreation leisure and travel, footwear and clothing sales and auto travel and sales all suffering through declines. It is costing the economy a bundle.

Riiiiight. They crippled their economy because they panicked. You are so smart.

The NO2 pollution over Wuhan used to be a solid blockade visible from space hiding the city. Now that the city has been clamped down awhile the sky is clear.

Anyways we got four dead in Walla Walla, they got 2912 dead in China.

Its three more times (at least three, up to eight more times) as likely to be transmitted...

You can be asymptomatic and still transmit the virus...

There's no reliable treatment and were months away from a reliable vaccine, years away from it being distributed globally.

    For starters.

    We likely did.

The Chinese have written many deaths off as septic shock or heart conditions.

The fatality rate is much higher than the statistics indicate.

There may never be a reliable vaccine, just like flu. We're lucky COVID-19 is a low virulence virus.

Yes, and more than likely there are tens of thousand of people with it that never went to the dr. for symptoms since it was mild, therefore the death rate is possibly that of the flu. For many, the symptoms are that of a cold. I don't know about others, but I do not go to the dr. for cold like symptoms.

Chinese also slaughtered all the cats and dogs should we also mimic that panic behavior?

Chinese officials 'round up and execute villagers' pets to stop the spread of coronavirus' despite WHO experts saying the disease cannot be spread to animals

This is remarkably bad timing on your part. Six people are now dead in Washington state.

Far worse is the fact that we failed at containing it. The mortality rate is bad enough (1%, ten times worse than the flu), but the scary thing is the virus is popping up everywhere and 15% percent of people get a severe form of this and 6% end up critically ill.

Think of it this way: the average flu season results in about 30 million infected Americans. Say this thing infects just a third of that (10 million- it's actually MORE contagious than the flu). You're then looking at 600,000 people in critical condition who will need intensive care. If we don't space that out over the coming months, it's all going to hit in a mass wave and we'll be ****ed.

I think we blew it. The CDC screwed up the testing, and we didn't close the schools early on, and now this thing is now out of control.

    If true, that's fair.

Meh. Same with plenty of viruses.

Technically there's no reliable vaccine for the flu either. But at least there is one widely available, and if we guess the prominent strands correctly, it can be fairly effective. It can also be much less effective if we guess wrong.

But the symptoms don't seem much (if any) worse than the flu, and the people dying have mostly been people with underlying conditions (especially underlying lung/breathing conditions) (and/or elderly), which is no different than with the flu.

You're a fine example of the hysteria that we don't need.

Those stats are from WHO's report. Do you want the facts or do you want to stick your head in the ground? This thing isn't going away.

No ****in **** theyd blame it on something other than the virus.

It's much prettier to say someone died from septic shock then to add another tally on the Corona virus death ticker.

Where did I say we should mimic their behavior?

I said they crushed their economy over it so clearly they think it's more than a flu.

    Do you understand now?
