If the US had done, it would not been in trouble, again.
My County is flooded with Texan, Florida, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada. Close the fricking State Lines, please.
When the States around you get a hold of the spread, open the Lines up again.

It is the cross border line travel which spread the virus. You can contain it in a state, as long as you do not bring in new spreaders.

Thats what Europe did, close the borders, between the states, use the emergency laws to upset the free movement laws.
3 month later the EU looks rather good, free movement is back, state lines are open and even mass tourism is starting up.
I have my thoughts about it, the tourism. It will back fire, as we see in the US

That awful consequence has finally come-home here in France. Moreover, the greatest number of deaths has been in retirement nursing-homes. As well it should be, perhaps - after all the elderly are most often the victim of any diseases contactable person-to-person.

Makes one wonder if "recovering" is worth the effort if one is plagued with shortness-of-breath for the rest of their lives ...

You claimed Europe was doing better than us Fighting Covid.
I pointed out that is not an apples to apples comparison due to our freedom of travel among states.
You said Europe has the same freedom of travel.
I showed you the EU countries banned travel among themselves to slow the covid spread which is something we could not do among our fifty states.
You admitted that's true which brings us full circle to my initial statement that the EU and the US are not an apples to apples comparison.

Well, I said that Europe IS doing better - not just was doing better.

Yes - Europeans have rights of travel around Europe. But, they chose to reduce that trave. It seems most likely that it will be shown to be one of the smart things they did that we did not do.

I've also pointed out that making use of borders is only one way of reducing travel. There are lots of ways we could have reduced travel.

Europe is taking other action on travel, too. For example, that have seriously harsh requirements on anyone who travels to Europe from states that have failed to get COVID under control - like the USA. If you fly there, they will put you in a 2 week quarantine at your expense, for example.

And, there may be other restrictions concerning travel within Europe.

 

How about Johns Hopkins or Baylor College of medicine? Would you accept their 'facts'? Hey, I'm no fan of CNN myself, but if you opened the article you'd see that CNN is reporting the facts from medical experts - not just making up their own.

 

Most who catch covid don't even know they have it or have very mild symptoms. The flu kills about 40,000 per year in the US and it's been with us for over a hundred years, yet no one says or does a thing about it. Are those 40,000 deaths of no value, or are only covid deaths of value to you?

Abortion kills about 600,000 in the US every year, yet I doubt you even bat-an-eye over that. I don't think saving lives is your mission, I think gaining a political edge is your mission, and your blame-it-all-on-Trump charade only confirms it.

 

Because the flu has been around for over 100 years, we know much more about it like treatment methods and have a yearly vaccine. Covid-19 not so much although we are learning more and more each day thanks to science.

 

A US citizens will not be allowed to enter the EU, period.

My nephew lives in NY, he could travel to Europe as a German, 2 weeks mandatory quarantine, naturally.
But not his wife and child, because they are US citizens.

 

All you showed, the US is to stupid to control that virus.

I thought I could go there if I gave the address of where I'd be, and the address couldn't be a hotel or some such situation. And, of course with a 2 week quarentine at my expense.

Learning how to live with it means we need to learn not to live in fear of the virus .A way to do that is through educating people on the fact that more Americans recover from COVID than die. Out of 2.5 million cases, 1.5 million have recovered with a death toll still under 300,000. A spike in cases does not necessarily signal disaster. Out of the 15,000 cases Florida just reported, if even 8,000 of those recover even at passive immunity, this would not be a devastating number as its being presented by the media. The numbers indicate that, overall, people have a higher probability of recovering than dying from the virus. With more testing, there are going to be more cases.

It's imperative we focus on the recoveries, not generalize the cases or obsess over the deaths.

 

Feel free to tell us how fifty states could ban interstate travel as the sovereign countries of the EU did.

 

The EU stopped travel between EU members which was very effective at slowing the spread of the virus. We on the other hand have fifty states that could not and would not seal their borders because we are one nation not 26 nations as the EU is. It’s an apples oranges comparison so your initial comment that we could be compared to Europe based on population has been utterly and completely destroyed. Population alone is a very poor metric when you look at the big picture

Meaningless words. Tell us how an interstate travel ban would have been implemented and policed and how Trump could legally do it and enforce it.

 

Your argument was Europe had the same freedom of travel we did. I showed you how they banned travel between countries so your argument is down the toilet.
