My wife and I have had similar experiences all over Europe. Canada, too, where we both became nationalized and live part of the year (she born in Ohio, me in California). The most shocking personal attack I remember was we were near where the soldier was beheaded in 2013.

Oh please never confuse my comments on him shutting his mouth with me wanting him to stop blathering.
Learning when to shut his mouth is constructive.
Him continuing to make an ass out of himself is delightful and if he continues he will move more democrats over to the right side than Hillary Clinton.

In this case I do think the little Stalins and Hitlers who want to deprive Americans of the inalienable rights that are protected by the Constitution hate the Constitution. The same can be said for the authoritarians who want to be rid of it altogether because it frustrates their will to power and the ignoramuses who think it is a relic of the past.

And it's not just the Second Amendment that many of those Americans In Name Only hate or dislike. Many of them would like to "amend" the First Amendment in order to force people to speak, and ultimately think, the way they want them to speak (and think).

Not everyone in this country is willing to make the jackass move to "amend" the 2nd Amendment, either. As reasonable people on both sides of this debate know and acknowledge, the Constitution and 2A protect the right to bear arms, which is part of the broader right to self-defense, but that doesn't mean the Constitution and 2A forbid the government from regulating that right in a reasonable manner. There's no need to "amend" the 2A unless you want to get rid of it. If you want to act like an extremist don't come crying to me when you get treated like one.

For the record, I own guns and I support reasonable gun control measures that keep firearms out of the wrong hands and restrict or ban fully-automatic weapons or accessories such as bump stocks that effectively convert a semi-auto rifle to full auto. More importantly, I would like to see us at least try to solve the complex problems that are driving the violence itself.

All this talk of "amending" (eliminating) the 2A is getting in the way of that. If you're not interested in reaching compromise or consensus keep pushing for it.

He's not making an ass out of himself. The ones who look like asses are the RWrs who vilify these kids who are standing up for themselves instead of just remaining quiet and accepting that they must live in fear. Attacking these kids is the dumbest thing the RW has ever done.

No such claim has been made by liberals generally. In fact, I haven't seen a single assertion banning AR-15s "will end school shootings." You're making up stuff.

How about coming up with ways we can better protect members of the public who don't want to carry firearms or even use them to defend their homes?

If banning AR-15s will not stop school shootings whats the point?

And knowing that it wont why do liberals reject metal detectors and competent armed guards at schools?

Something that will keep students safe

I don't attack these kids for speaking, The very fact that have no understanding how to do a better job protecting then while in school and are being couched by the lefties that removing all the guns will fix everything.
Yesterday idiot leftie radio talking heads like Thom Hartmann were complaining that there were too many cops in schools and misbehaving rowdy kids were being removed by police instead of just being sent home. These "kids" are now calling for the police to be removed from their schools.
When some of these young skulls full of mush start paying taxes I will listen to their whining.

Really, criticizing some one else's speech, isn't opposing freedom of speech.

If we amend the Constitution, then the vast majority of Americans no longer wish the supreme law of the land to read as it does now. Calling people to want to amend the Constitution "little Stalins and Hitlers" is asinine. You're poisoning the country with your hatred.

How about working on ways to remove firearms from the hands of people who shouldn't have weapons without taking away guns from everyday folks?
There's nothing "jackass" about wanting to amend or even repeal parts of the Constitution. It depends upon what they intend.
How about making your point without the name-calling and nastiness?

I happen to think a national firearms license modeled on the Nexus Pass is the way to go. I've said many times on the forum how I think it should work, so I won't repeat my suggestion here. It would eliminate gun registration and background checks for license holders, so it would make life less complicated for legitimate gun owners.
People who want to ban AR-15s aren't extremists if that's all they want. I happen to think they're on the wrong track, but that doesn't make them "extremists."
You might look at the rhetoric coming from gun rights fellow travellers. I was attacked repeatedly for talking about a national firearms license that would be granted subject only to a background check for violent crimes, mental capacity problems, and membership in criminal enterprises. The people who went after me weren't willing to do anything.

Hell - I've been calling for the same security for schools that we have at airports - I don't know anyone who is rejecting metal detectors or armed guards for schools, except the budget cuts that Republicans keep proposing.

Most liberals reject the idea for as many different reasons as there are liberals

I think they think gun control is more likely if the schools remain unprotected

They think it will help. It's up to gun owners to patiently explain why they're probably wrong.
Metal detectors are huge nuisance for schools. But let's say they're needed--are you prepared to increase taxes to pay for the security guards and metal detectors? Schools already have far too few qualified teachers in the sciences, mathematics, computer science, and skilled trades because the pay is way too low.

If not all then everything more advanced than muzzle loaders

Just because most liberals will not admit the true objective does not reassure me at all
