Further confirmation that this was a massive #BlueWave. Tsunamis come on slow, but they are unstoppable. Did you remember to tell your friends?

It is really weird. I was told that I would grow tired of winning, but it has not happened yet. I am willing to keep trying though.

Republicans are in a world of trouble and may never recover; oh well.

There Isn’t Hope for Us’: Once Dominant, California Republicans Are on the Ropes" https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/06/us/california-republicans-midterms.html

“Until we recognize the fact that our brand is dead and the people perceive our brand is dead — that we need to change it and completely fix it — there isn’t hope for us in California,” he said.

    Seats change all the time.

    Hardly shocking.

When was there ever hope for Republicans in California? I was under the impression that the blue chokehold was strongest there.

    You are correct.

Republicans have been "dead" in California for quite awhile now.

I mean it's nothing to celebrate, they've run California into the ground. Hollywood is the engine that keeps that particularly inflated mess going. Think Trump's been irresponsible? If you're not rich and a multibillionaire, you simply can't make it in Cali.

The irony since Liberals are against the uber-rich.

Republican decline in California has been going on for some time but like Schwarzenegger, many now are former Republicans. Neither Bush Sr or W voted for Trump. Republicans under Trump are very incapable/ anti-science/ Bible-belt nincompoops that Californians don't want anything to do with, quite frankly.

Not only did DEMS pick up those 40 seats and win control of the House, MrT, but they won the House Popular Vote by nearly 10 MILLION.

That's an 8.6% margin of victory over hapless republicans.

How often does one political party earn 9.8 million more votes for the US House than the other party?

Spooky is having trouble with the rejection of Trump in the House and the GOP limited gain in the Senate (they should have gained eight or nine seats there).

Republicans, like a bad memory, are being forgotten/ eliminated one by one each election in California. It is painfully clear to Republicans that they don't belong in California anymore. To openly profess to be a Republican invites immediate ridicule/ alienation here and why many Republicans never reveal their political orientation out of justified fear.

Republicans have earned the vileness with which they are regarded in CA.

Meh - hardly blue wave. Obama lost 63 seats in his first mid-term and Clinton lost 52. Both also lost senate seats. R team gained senate seats this go'round.

My preference was they gain back at least one side of Congress, so I'm good. It's bad for the country when one team has all three branches. So, not tough at all.

Yes, their numbers are quite low compared to other previous presidents. Hard to refute, but keep tryin'.

You realize we have a larger population voting now than at anytime in our history don't you?

As our population grows so will those voting numbers.

It's also a number completely devoid of any meaning or significance.

You do understand that "total votes" and "complete and crushing defeat" are two different concepts, right?

You are still down in seats over the last decade.

You can't measure a trend by one election.

You are cherry picking numbers then claiming a crushing defeat.

It was an election with high participation. The typical blue states have a huge population compared to the typical red states.

California has 37 million people. Some states don't even have a million people.

Your stat is completely without significance. It doesn't tell any sort of story.

All your total votes stat tells us is that blue states have larger populations than red states. We already knew that, so it adds zero information to the population-by-state conversation.

Yep, you are trying but failing: largest gain since Watergate by the Dems, and a preview to a massive blue victory in 2020.

Oh. I see. Yes, in the context that they gained more seats than the democrats usually lose when they are in power, sure, why not. Something for your team to be proud of!

"We gained less seats than Obama & Clinton lost, but we won more than we usually do!!!"

PS - I have no team; I loathe both parties equally. I'd like to see Congressional control flip every two years, with each team taking turns controlling the house & senate. I absolutely hate lifetime Congress creatures. Term limits for everyone.
