The DP is really challenging the RP for the Stupid Party crown.
A far more interesting to watch than other professional sports these days.
    Thanks Nancy! ;-)

I'm loving the "your party" line btw

So we are now cheering for people not doing the job we pay them to do?

If you take your car in to get an oil change do you cheer the mechanic on because he doesn't change your oil?

Yes, but the Republicans actually got the DP to withhold the $600 bucks.
LBJ and Harry Reid must be spinning. Or is Reid still alive? ;-)

Pelosi doesn't have to make a deal. She is the Speaker of the House and the House controls the money. If she really wanted $600 she would present it as a nonnegotiable item. She has the leverage and she should use it. impeached trump has no say in it.

What planet do you live on? On this one, countless American businesses are closed and about 33,000,000 adults are jobless. Maybe you want them to rob you?

That is one of the dumbest comments on this thread. Drive around your town and look at the closed businesses. Where in the hell do you think the people who worked in them will get jobs when so many businesses are closed down? Are you hiring 33,000,000 people?

Yes, the NHL is still worth watching.

    This is how it works:
    1. The RP says "NO" to giving Americans money.
    2. The DP says "here's some more cash, vote for us for more!"
    Presto Chango! DP Wins!

Nancy and Chuck just said "NO!".
They must be channeling Nancy Reagan. ;-)

All White Wealthy Leftwing Priviledged Crazy Nancy had to do, was quit screaming no and say yes to an extension while a compromise was worked out and the Oppressed BIPOC would not be looking at lapsed benefits, and no way to put food on the table because Crazy Nancy won't quit yelling No. No. No. No. No. No. No. Eleven times she just said no.

You can't spin out of that. She's rich, crazy, represents a D+37 district, she doesn't need the $600/wk, as long as she has the support of the Democrats in the House, she's untouchable and is free to tantrum whenever she likes, which, is quite often.

Aaaaand this is the second time she's held up relief to unemployed and underemployed Americans.

In light of this situation I have a humble suggestion that will NEVER happen in Washington:

Separate the $1200 stimulus and weekly payment from the rest of the legislation and then pass a compromise on those two measures. Then Nancy can get back to playing politics and refusing to work with Republicans while the American people get on with their lives...

"All White Wealthy Leftwing Priviledged Crazy Nancy had to do, was quit screaming no and say yes to an extension while a compromise was worked out " ......

Your forgetting the series of events that led us to here. All McConnell had to do was pick up a pen in MAY and start the amending process and people on unemployment would've never been in the position to be held hostage

For one week, maybe. And almost definitely once they pass whatever they pass, it will be retroactive.

Rob me? So this is some sort of extortion or the unemployed people will start robbing the rest of us? I'd literally rather give the extra $600/wk to the police department. Some folks are so greedy and shortsighted they don't even see the terrible downward spiral this freebie / no personal responsibility mentality puts us on.

We already had a huge problem with a segment of the population being lazy, entitled, essentially useless, and a burden on everyone else. Now some of you want to take that problem and put it on steroids.

Be careful what you wish for. We've seen what freebies do and the kind of societal dregs the welfare mentality creates. Don't kid yourself that any of this is any different. COVID or no COVID, paying people more not to work than they were earning working is a terrible idea no matter which political alter you worship at. (Yeah, yeah, curse me for being an Independent, but there are also plenty of D's and R's who agree with me. Unfortunately "freebies" help buy elections, so here we are.)

Yup. But when Nancy doesn't get her way, Nancy throws a fit, and thanks to the Democrats in the House she has the Speaker's Gavel, and with it, the power to shut everything down when she has a tantrum.

Yes she was wrong on the 1st one to contemplate crafting her own version of the bill when time was a pressing factor I agree.

This quagmire were in now is entirely on the Republicans... There would've never been this time crunch had they done their jobs in MAY

"Separate the $1200 stimulus and weekly payment from the rest of the legislation and then pass a compromise on those two measures. "

This I totally agree with but both sides need it in there to take attention away from other stupid things they each want to fund imo

    Yup.
You can't remake history. Before she threw a tantrum and left, all she had to do was quit screaming no, say yes to an extension while a compromise was worked out, and folks would be qualifying for the $600/wk additional benefits. That's all there is to it. She had the Freedom to say Yes or No, and she said NO! Over and over and over again. That's why benefits are lapsed.

You're basically running the stupid defense, and blaming McConnell for outmaneuvering her. McConnell doesn't have the power to make her say YES or NO. She alone has that power, and she chose NO!

And as a result, this Rich Wealthy, Entitled, Left-Wing White Woman of Privilege took away the $600/ week that Oppressed Black, Indigenous and Other People Of Color have been depending on to keep food on the table. Not a good look considering the history of Oppression that the DNC is so well known for.

She could have agreed to the $1200 stimulus and hammered out a compromise on the weekly payouts last week IF she wanted to, Turner, but she didn't.

So here we are. Fortunately for me I don't have to rely on Nancy Pelosi to survive but a lot of other people aren't so fortunate. She needs to put them before her party for a change.

I really dont think either side wants to separate out the 1200 bucks. It's there to distract the public from each others pork imo

As far as last week I believe the sticking point was liability protection and the amount of unemployment benefits. But again we wouldnt be under this time constraint had the senate picked this up in may. They went on vacation from july 1st to july 20th I believe...

    Here's Moscow Mitch from May

    SNIP
While Democrats want to ramp up spending and pass new legislation as quickly as possible, Republicans led by McConnell have advocated for waiting to see how the current stimulus spending and reopening efforts shake out in the economy before passing a new bill.
    ENDSNIP

The reopening efforts sucked ass, the economy is in a full blown recession.. How'd that waiting work out for the Fascist Old Party??
