Yea, homeless guys also have a foul smell...maybe we should remove all baby boys sweat glands at birth in case some of them become homeless.

And in case you're not aware, there are some very disgusting vaginas out there.

    Duh!

Look - where did I advocate FOR circumcision?

I am merely stating that for some it is easier to keep things clean and using this as an example

Unfortunately there are people out there who do not have the best hygiene and this may have been the reason for it's inclusion as a ritual among some early tribes - i some of our indigenous tribes (although i gather it was done at puberty and involved a sharpened stone)

In Tahiti the Frenchies are called frani taioro by the local gourmets, but here in Paris you can get plastered for free:)

I see at least two women have said they are in favour of male genital mutilation in this poll.

How dare they! I am in favour of having their clitoral hoods removed.

Actually their entire labia minora as well. The foreskin is really quite a big organ, with a surface area the size of an entire index card if the skin were unfolded. The foreskin actually has more sensitive nerve endings than the entire female clitoris, the most errogenous part of the female genitalia.

I can't believe this is suddenly an issue. Nobody gives a (*)(*)(*)(*) when parents get their babies' ears pierced. It's the same thing. Infant circumcision has been going on forever and has been done to countless males. Why has it only recently become something terrible? Ridiculous. I think sometimes sensitive people have nothing better to do than sit around and find new things to be offended by.

I think opposition towards circumcision depends a lot on how much you know about it. There's a common misconception that male circumcision is just a harmless operation that helps with hygiene and doesn't actually effect the male negatively.
People should not be allowed to mutilate a baby as a way to ensure they follow the same religion as their parents - the baby has to live with the effects on their sexual pleasure for the rest of their life and it's unfair to mark them permanently as belonging to a religion they're too young to even understand.
And I also don't see why parents should be allowed get get their baby mutilated out of some misguided idea that it'll significantly help with hygiene - anyone heard of taking a shower?

It's become an issue because people aren't uneducated (*)(*)(*)(*)ing cavemen anymore. Piercing baby ears isn't good either, but at least that hole can be closed. Even split tongues can be corrected. Circumcision is permanent. No parent should be able to permanently remove or alter part of their child's body unless doing so is a medical necessity. It's a violation of basic rights, and it's why us westerners are so disgusted with the muslim practice of female circumcision. Also, a lot of the countless males who've been circumcised (including myself) are coming to realize what exactly has been done to us. We've lost the most erogenous part of our penis because some (*)(*)(*)(*)ing sand people from forever ago made it a custom.

All sorts of grotesque things have been done to small children for aeons. Why not get civilised and stop these horrors?

Because it has nothing to do with being civilized. You're just being a sissy here. You are getting offended by something extremely trivial. And it's absurd and pathetic. If you want to get upset about something legitimately grotesque that's actually happening to small children, why not push for an end to abortion? Why not save their lives instead of just their foreskins?

I am fine fortunately. Not everyone who is circumcised turns out fine though. There are a number of ways the surgery can be botched; some people end up mutilated for life and some die in cases of serious complications. Check out pics of some of the superficial (*)(*)(*)(*) that can happen at http://www.circumstitions.com/Complic.html#damage; or just use google. The fact is surgically removing part of a person's body is dangerous as hell, and should only be done out of necessity... especially when the person is too young to consent.

I'm not upset. I just think civilized people don't cut bits off babies.

maybe not, but you can't make a reasonable case just because it's not 'civilized'. I mean, you've got the whole things about it being without the consent of the baby, why not use that one?

Did not circumsize my babies but told them when they grew up, if THEY wanted it done, I'd pay for it. They never asked.

Sometimes necessary for medical reasons. If I’m ever in the position of making this decision for my son I’ll be seeking medical advice before hand.

Really it's not a controversial issue at all. It's a decision made by the PARENTS, and nobody else's business.

Well. I'm quite old, and I was brought up in civilization, so I'll stick to what I know. Getting babies to consent to, for instance, immunization, is not easy and opens up a complicated can of worms. Cans of worms are not civilized, honest! :)

If it's not controversial, it certainly should be. Parents do not have the right to mutilate their children because they think it is a good idea. As the poet Kahlil Gibran put it - "Your children come through you, not from you." And the welfare of children is everybody's business - which is why every civilised country subscribes to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and why the abuse and neglect of children are crimes in those jurisdictions. Your children are not your property to do with as you see fit.
