It's like sex, the longer you go, the better it is! :)
We tend to eat more pork than beef, but damn, that steak was good! Warm, pink center and plenty of juice to go into the potatoes!

one thing to think about for people that fear fat on meat cause of the saturated fat fears, has anyone ever seen a obese person lose 50 to 100lbs or more in a year, guess what, they just ate 50 to 100lbs of their own animal fat, and they are definitely healthier for it, if it was that bad, I would expect them to get worse, not so much better

Well thank God, I’ve already got 1 bear and 2 deer in the freezer and the hunting season just opened less than a month ago.

probably better than seed oils like corn oil, but I would still not use it

this sadly is true, but we do not have to demonize meat cause some can't afford it, sure grain feeding humans is cheaper, but it does increase health care costs in the long run, I think that one can reduce grains and sugar and still have a good diet - and ironically, on a high carb diet, people are getting fatter, thus eating more, thus takes more food to feed everyone

I think diabetes will be the one medical condition that will make the government take notice and change their dietary recommendations, at least for people with pre-diabetes and diabetes - now the pharmaceuticals may fight this

or they just stop covering the condition

"Trump Official Says Diabetes a Preexisting Condition Not Worthy of Coverage"

wow, the ad on there said ribeye $4.79 a pound, that is an awesome deal

I have thought about buying a freezer and just buying a whole cow, growing up that is what grand parents did to save money

That's how they used to do it! K&J has been here about 4 years, they are almost always packed, people come from several counties around to shop. Got a gallon of milk from Dakin Dairy for 4.29cent. Kinda pricey but that dairy is about 15 miles away, in Myakka city. Much rather drink that than California milk. I avoid Wal Mart as much as I can, for K&Js

My wife has been doing the strict keto thing for about 2 years now. She’s always talking about “healthy fats”.
We stay away from processed foods, I hunt and fish, grow a lot of our own organic fruits and vegetables and raise our own chickens for eggs and meat.
But my wife loves bacon. ( I think it’s a keto thing), and we don’t raise pigs yet, so she buys it from a local farm that doesn’t use nitrates in their bacon.
For about 6 or 8 weeks this farm didn’t have any bacon, every week she would ask and every week they would say “maybe next week”.
Well, finally the day came that they had fresh bacon...
The guy says, “we have bacon”
    Wife says, “where”?
    Guy says “in the cooler”
Wife says, “there’s only 5 lbs here do you have any more?”
Guy says “we have more in the walk in cooler, how much do you want?”
Wife says “ how much do you have?”

At this point I say “oh **** this is gonna be expensive” (fresh bacon is 10 bucks a lb)

Guy says, “ we probably have about 200 lbs in the cooler”
Wife says” then that’s how much I would like”

You should have seen the look on that guy’s face as he was bagging up 200 lbs of bacon!

10 bucks? Damn, but i guess if it's organic and free of nitrates....Most bacon is 5$ a pound, but it's packaged with nitrates, Hope you had plenty of BLTs! What time is dinner?

Raw pork also has good results. There is a local German deli that will sell it if you are lucky.

I live in Connecticut, everything is expensive up here. I’ve got 12 people in my household, myself, my wife, 6 kids (5 adopted), my wife’s sister and her 3 kids...even with hunting, fishing and growing my own our weekly grocery bill (organic) is still around 600 bucks a week.

Just like tartare its all about a good butcher/deli you trust. If its done right its quite safe.

Any ground/frozen stuff is going to be suspect.

Rare duck breast ain't bad btw.

There is a local joint that makes a wicked smoked duck sandwich.

In re this: Does anyone know of any good books on how to fish FOR FOOD. All I've been able to find are these books on how to do it for what seem spiritual reasons. I want to do it because I like to eat fish, I've had a doctor tell me I should eat lots more of it, it costs about a minimum of $10 a lb around here and I have one of the better stocked streams in the country about a mile distant. But I want to catch fish to EAT, this whole idea of just going out to stand around water for hours seems silly to me For example: This whole idea of hooking one and letting it go seems not only ridiculous but genuinely cruel. If you're not going to eat it why should you just TORMENT the poor thing?

Won't raw pork give you trichinosis?

There are ways to legally trap fish. It would depend on where you are and the law, and what your neighbors will help out with.

Maybe some neighbors have stocked reservoirs/ponds?

Only if you are susceptible and there is trich in the pork.

    There are ways around that.

Bear is actually very good, like any game meat it needs to be handled properly. From the release of the bow string to the kitchen table, if handled and harvested properly it is delicious!!

    Rare beef is my favorite.

Im not going to make any raw meat a thing.

But when I do eat raw meats-I usually have a few shots of alcohol.

Same reason sushi is had with sake.
