And, dna test confirms her claim, except for the number of generations back.

Except the DNA "suggests" (as every source keeps saying) that she's 1/1204 Native American. It can't even be proven.

Her parents fell in love but her fathers parents were bitterly opposed because she was part Native American.

She made a mistake about the recency of her heritage.

Like I said, most Americans know very little about their heritage. We have an ever increasing number who don't even know who their FATHERS are.

I do think the Cherokee get to choose who is to be considered a tribal member. And, her name isn't on the Dawes registry, for example. BUT, as far as I know she hasn't said anything to the contrary. Nothing she claimed would have made her a candidate for tribal membership - that's been well known from the start.

So, BFD.

This is the reason it’s controversial. When she was at Harvard Law School and the University of Pennsylvania, she represented herself as Native American. She contributed to a Native American cookbook called Pow Wow Chow, calling herself Cherokee.​
