Facebook Censors Campaign Video from Brilliant GOP Candidate
    source link

"........This story is starting to build and acquire momentum. It’s about a woman named Elizabeth Heng. She is Cambodian. She’s a Republican. She is the Republican challenger seeking to be elected in the 16th District of California, which is basically Fresno.

She just had a four-minute ad, a four-minute video taken down on Facebook. Facebook took it down because it is “hate-filled,” among other things. The hatred in this… There isn’t any hatred in this ad. She describes how her parents got together during the regime of Pol Pot in Cambodia, which was genocide. In describing the genocide of Pol Pot, a communist leader, she offended Facebook! It is hate speech to attack a communist leader! They took her video down, her four-minute ad.

The woman is exactly what this country needs. The woman is exactly what California needs. The ad describes the nightmare circumstances in which her family came together and had to escape Cambodia. In the primary in June, she came within a few thousand votes of beating the seven-term congressman, Jim Costa. This district in 2016 went heavily for Hillary, as most districts in California did.

The seat that she’s trying to win — the district — is “safe blue,” meaning the Democrats own this seat like Joe Crowley supposedly owned his seat in Queens until Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez came along. Except Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a socialist and Elizabeth Heng is not. She is a brilliant Republican and conservative. She’s the opposite of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and she is the opposite of Sarah Jeong. I want to play for you segments. I’m not gonna play the whole four-minute ad, but I want to play for you the first 47 seconds.

Here is why Facebook took this down. They haven’t apologized. They haven’t rectified this. They denied this ad space on Facebook, and it is classic of what’s happening on Facebook and Twitter. You know, some people think (and I’m one of them) that the Drive-Bys pose a grave, great threat to honesty, integrity in the country and elections. I think Facebook and Twitter are just as big. I think 80% of Facebook and Twitter’s executive staff work with the Democrat Party.

The Democrat Party is helping Facebook and Twitter ban conservatives in one way or the other. Here, we’ve got three sound bites in the ad that Facebook took down. I want you to remember as you listen to this, the New York Times just hired a woman of South Korean heritage — who probably wouldn’t even be alive today if it weren’t for white American soldiers in Korea making sure the North didn’t win that war.

    WTH!

Facebook bans pictures of real atrocities? Would they ban pictures of Nazi Concentration camps if they were relevant to the history of someone who posted them?

Social media is slashing it's wrists in an effort to manipulate and appease.

And the point is correct, people like Heng are exactly what this country, and most absolutely her District in California needs.

Here's why Rush says it was taken down:

And there is a picture of her mom and dad when she describes them. They got married the very next day, “41 years later, they are still the happiest couple I know.” We’ll put the link to the video at RushLimbaugh.com so you can see it. That reference to Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge regime, genocide? That’s what got this taken down. That’s considered hate speech. I don’t know if an algorithm did it or a human being did it, but that’s what got it canceled.

She was critical of a leftist, communist regime. I’m not kidding. You watch the rest of it. There’s no reason to take this down! It doesn’t offend anybody or anything. It’s not depressing. It doesn’t make anybody mad, other than deranged leftists. It’s uplifting. It is inspirational. You can tell, it’s soft-spoken. It’s not belligerent or any of the sort. By the way, when she’s describing the situation in Cambodia, there are old black-and-white images of the holocaust that took place. That is considered promoting hate at Facebook, and it is true that being young and single meant you were wiped out.

    Watched the whole thing.

According to reports from other sources, Facebook is claiming the pictures of the killing fields are inflammatory and violate policy.

My ass. It's relevant family history, and strikes to the key message she is promoting - great things can come from extreme adversity.

Social media is quickly becoming the tool of the extremists on the left.

It should alarm everyone for "state" approved messaging is becoming the norm within the New Democratic Party.

The beginning is somewhat disturbing in content and I have no idea if that violates FB's policies. Perhaps the OP should provide those policies instead of quoting an asshat like Limbaughtomy.

Yes, I watched the entire video and yes, it was inspiring.

What struck me most was the MESSAGE that here was an asian child of immigrants representing what she calls the "future" of the GOP!

    Seriously?

She didn't sound like she was preaching the GOP message at all. Not once did she mention your BLOTUS or funding the military or building that moronic wall.

In fact had I seen that video without knowing which party she represents I would have put her down as a Dem candidate instead.

If she is elected and she ends up sitting alongside the clowns in the "freedom caucus" on the GOP side of the House it won't take her long to figure out that she is the wrong party.

Well, I think she was speaking to the massive destruction Dems have wrought on her District, and the inability of the incumbent to overcome them.

While people wander around aimlessly, in poverty and despair, radicals on the left complain of military funding and a wall to keep out lawbreaking foreign invaders.

What's interesting is that this candidate, who comes from extraordinary circumstances, could never be a Dem, because success through hard work and sacrifice is a foreign concept to them, but a way of life to her.

Looks like a routine 'no pics of emaciated dead peeps' thing.

But I'm sure George Soros paid lots of money for something nefarious anyway and conservatives are being shut out all day long, everywhere. That's what happens when lefties are in charge of it all. Whine. Cry. Sob. And nazis deserve free speech, too. Etc.

She should sue since this was a political ad alleging 1.) Racism by a corporation refusing to provide her equal services because of her race and 2.) breach of contract since she paid.

What would he know? You even quote him admitting he has no idea whether the video was removed by an algorithm or a human. Given there are articles out there directly quoting Heng or her official representatives and also Facebook's statements on the matter, why would you choose to discuss the topic on the sole basis of a partisan third-party with no personal interest and no first-hand information working just on what he could copy from other sources?

The excuse of an algorithm has always been a lie. Facebook has an army of reviewers, as does Google. Algorithms can not interpret pictures. This excuse has been a lie every time it is told.

If you people for once would actually look at the message and stop attacking the messenger you might actually learn something someday.

I’ll attack the messenger when they turn up with only half the message and offer their own uniformed opinion on what the rest of it should have said. The fact is that he didn’t present Facebook’s actual reason for removing the video and he didn’t even report the candidates own response to it being removed. He just “reviewed” the video and used it as a basis to push his own personal opinions.

I was able to find other reports on this actually doing that correctly, including linking to her Facebook page with her opinion on the matter (and, as it happens, a link to the video hosted on her own website). If you actually wanted an open and honest discussion of the issue of political videos being removed from social media, there are better sources you could have used (especially in this section, where it doesn’t actually need to be a news site).

While I have compassion for what her parents and family endured, what does it have to do with her qualifications for a political position?

    UPDATE: Justice Prevails:

About-face: Facebook lifts block on California Republican Elizabeth Heng's campaign ad

    https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/aug/7/facebook-lifts-block-california-republican-elizabe/

QUOTE: Facebook lifted Tuesday its block on Republican Elizabeth Heng’s campaign ad, but the California congressional candidate said the company still owes her a public apology.

“I’m deeply disappointed that Facebook would not give me a public apology for targeting a conservative candidate for Congress,” she said in a statement. “It took them 5 days and an immense amount of pressure before they ‘realized’ that they deliberately blocked my history and my story.”

She received a message on Facebook last week saying that her ad, which contains scenes of the Cambodian genocide, violated the company’s policy against “shocking, disrespectful or sensational content, including ads that depict violence or threats of violence.”

Facebook’s policy on paid advertising is stricter than its rules governing regular posts, but critics argued that the 40-year-old black-and-white images of skulls and corpses were essential to her story about how her parents escaped the communist Khmer Rouge.

After a deluge of criticism on the right, a Facebook spokesperson said Tuesday that the ad had been cleared for distribution.

“Upon further review, it is clear the video contains historical imagery relevant to the candidate’s story,” said Facebook

How so? When you look at any town, city, county or state long ran by only dems, you see a place that looks worse than Hiroshima.

Are they a publisher or platform? Platform means everyone gets a voice, publisher means they are bound by the fairness doctrine. Either way, they have violated laws with their censorship.

Everybody who deals with Facebook signs their policy disclaimer that state Facebook has sole discretion on deciding what is or is not offensive content - it's in that fine print
    when you first sign on.

So there are a few conservatives here who are always complaining about the "liberal" media ... so I ask what is the deal there? Why is it only liberals who control all this? Intelligence?
Drive? Creativity? Conservatives have money - so it has to be at least one of those qualities.
