Bill Maher recently said that Fox News was to blame for the polarization of America. Fox’s The Five co-host Greg Gutfeld agrees, but doesn’t think that’s such a bad thing.

The segment started because of this line from Bill Maher, “I feel like the reason people are so polarized is Fox News. I think of all the things that changed America, Fox News changed the most.”

    Greg Gutfeld replied, saying,

“He’s right! If it weren’t for Fox News everyone would be in lock-step because the rest of the media is as compliant as pizza dough, so Maher is really whining about competition, we’d all get along if we just agreed with him. It’s a nostalgia shared by the President harkening back to when liberals owned the playing field, the teams, the refs, the cheerleaders. So now a new team arrives, FNC [Fox News Network] kicks your butt and you scream polarization.”

The policies and the principles of the left simply do not hold up to scruteny therefore having someone put them to such debate is anathema to the left and all they can do is whine about it rather than try to defend and support their own position.

After being lied to for decades, Americans embrace competition.

Funny how one side can complain about one news station giving the apposing views, when they have all the others walking pretty much in lock step.

I remember the very moment that I realized that the MSM was twisting the facts. I don't remember the subject, it was in 1982 so it was very likely a liberal media attack of Reagan. I was in Corpus Christi on the way back to the office, listening to the news stopped at a traffic light and the light that came on was an understanding of the evil of the liberal press. It was clear that they were lying to push an agenda for the dems.

I don't agree with Maher. FIX is good for the country.
It demonstrates to all their genius of manipulation and opinion creation amongst a targeted demographic.

As to competition, FIX may be the largest cable news channel, but it is dwarfed by network news numbers. OTOH their reach is far larger since it consistently provides their audiences with appropriate bite-sized bumper sticker slogans to communicate complex ideas in the simplest generalized terms, lacking all nuance but supported by the emotional manipulation of Luntzspeak. Their incessant editorializing slipped into what they pass off as "journalism", their masterful leading question approach, their holier than thou "we are embattled and threatened at every turn by nation destroying liberals is a terrifically effective formula.

It all adds up to what I consider the greatest propaganda machine ever built, and I am absolutely sure it will get even better.

Most Fox subscribers probably do not even know who Luntz is and Ailes likes it that way.

Yes. However, if conservatism could be pumped into American households for free like the three network news stations, those three would be dwarfed by that conservative network news station within the span of a year.

Maybe an incompetent in the WH is the main cause? Typical of Liberals, blame others.

Yes, but that's because they got intellectually fat and lazy since they and their Politically Correct perspectives were the only ones heard or given credence for decades by the then dominant media outlets ABC, CBS, and NBC and thanks to the way in which the fairness doctrine was enforced (nothing fair about it) that was all that was ever going to be presented to the nation until the doctrine was deep-sixed.

It's not that Fox News is always correct in their alternative perspectives, it's just that they ARE the only alternative perspective available to the average citizen from a media outlet that actually can go head to head with the big boys of the news outlets while successfully shrugging off attacks from the Left's and the Far Left's vicious attack poodles such as -- well -- such as Bill Maher.

I do agree that there is a substantial % of Americans that would be completely unaware and utterly susceptible to such blatant manipulation.

Fox News is, literally caught every day flat out making up obviously false nonsense. It isn't like they're a "news" organization in the sense that actual news outlets are. They are to news as professional wrestling is to actual wrestling. Fox doesn't compete with news stations for audience share, it competes with reality tv for the "I can't tell this is only pretend" section of the viewing audience.

You only hold that belief, because it is already apparent with the morons who watch the network news.

Yes. Pelosi can say something as "popularizing" as 'if rep's win the Senate, civilization as we know will never be the same' and Maher nods his approval. Maher can't make it through a policy discussion without throwing a few 4 letter terms deriding conservatives, and that's not polarizing, either. Obama, Reid, Pelosi can lie, and that's cool, tool. But FOX News...now that's polarizing!
No, Bill, for people like you the truth is what's polarizing, you filthy, deranged scum bag! Bill, snap out of it, you work for HBO!!!!!!

Our incredibly shrinking commentator, Greg Gutfeld, laid out his agenda to fight reality and it's hilarious,

Talk about denial. Gutfeld makes Ann Coulter seem quiet. He's like one of those Japanese airmen from WWII stuck on an island for decades with no idea that the war's been over. So how does his blather hurt us? It makes America vulnerable to his ignorance. Gutfeld kills brain cells while bowing to corporate creeps who hate Americans. He's like a mob member, but without the meatballs. All of this to feel cool around Rupert Murdoch.

Listen up, you denialist hags, Fox news is polarizing.

    Edit: noun changes.

Obviously, Jonsa. Look at the number who can't keep Tina Fey and Gov. Palin separate and consider the number who watch Bill Maher.

"Gregory John "Greg" Gutfeld is an American television personality, political satirist, author, humorist, magazine editor, and blogger." I looked up his background.

So essentially he's sort of a sane and responsible Right of Center version of Bill Maher . . . and so somehow this is baaaaad whereas Bill Maher is goooooood for the nation? Sweet!

Leave it to Maher to be too stupid to know what the word "blame" is.

    "Fault" does not indicate "blame".

He's not the brightest, old Bill Maher.

And Gutfeld just wants to take credit for something.

But yes, Fox News is "A" reason some folks are educated enough to not slurp the koolaid. If all we had was CBS, the entire nation would be dumbed down beyond belief. At least with Fox, the other side is presented without having to dig and read boring stuff like The Federal Register, etc.

And they can't sit around and talk about Obama's successful economic or jobs programs, he foreign policy successes, his successful running of government and fiscal policy, how he has helped minorities and the lower classes, how he has helped our kids in school....nothing.

So all they have is the blame game, it's all Republican's fault, Republicans are evil, the successful people are evil, Fox News is evil so watch us don't watch them and vote for Democrats.

As FOX says, we give you both sides you decide. If fact you will hear a better for intellectual airing of the liberal side on FOX. In fact I heard a young guy call into the Michael Medvid show the other day talking about how he had lost a bet with one of his conservative friends and he had to watch Fox for two weeks. He said he was hooked and that indeed it was the best news network out there. That his view got a full airing and the debates and discussion were far better than the claptrap the liberal networks spout all day long and he news he would not otherwise get. His favorite show being Megan Kelly's. Said he has it on all day long now.

It gives you both sides and doesn't have attempt to capture the few viewers the left has by only attacking the other rather than presenting intellectual news reporting and commentary.

Truth to tell I have not watched Fox for years but that's my memory of it. Not only did they really try and tell both sides of the story but they also went out of their way to bring in leftwingers -- some more credible than others -- to take a swing at convincing viewers of their perspective on things.
