Agreed, we need to deep-6 the filibuster. If the filibuster is in McConnell's hands, he might as well still be majority leader. Unfortunately, Manchin will probably oppose it nuking it, and Biden won't take seriously the need to eliminate it.
What's wrong with this? https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/01/05/us/elections/forecast-georgia-senate-runoff.html
I think I see your issue. You are comparing percentage of the county reporting but you must consider the population sizes. For example Harris county has 91% of votes reported. 13252 R + 5031 D = 18283 Total. Since 91% has reported that means the total available votes is 18283/.91 = 20091. That means there are 20091 - 18283 = 1808 outstanding uncounted votes. Compare that to Dekalb County where 94% has reported. They have 262037 D + 52403 R = 314440 Total. Since 94% has reported that means the total available vote is 314440/.94 = 334511. That means 334511 - 314440 = 20071 Outstanding uncounted votes. Also taking into account that the margins are higher for democrats in counties like Dekalb than Harris the outcome does not look good for republicans.
When Obama started he had the WH and both Houses of Congress, by the time he left you had lost all 3. Not sure Obama was what the Democrat Party needed. I suspect we'll recover the House in 2022. Dems generally really screw things up when they have too much power, so look for inflation expectations to skyrocket as stocks and bonds crash.
Yes, superstar and wonder woman. I like her. Amazing work ethic and enthusiasm. I agree the progressive wing will be a thorn in Biden's side. If the Dems do take the Senate, that gives Biden leverage over both the left wing and the GOP. The GOP would be powerless, so anything they want must go through Democrats. I can see Biden brokering deals with moderate Republicans which would keep the far left in check. How great would it be if Senate votes consisted of coalitions between moderates of both parties, with opposition from each extreme, in direct opposition to each other as well as the passage of legislation.
Great. I can worry about 2022, in 2022. Right NOW, I am going to relish this Massive Repudiation of Trump's GOP.
Now that the GOP are powerless, we will get a heavy dose of complaining about Obamacare and the national debt. Back to their old ways.
She is also that rarest of people in the Dem party - someone who is respected by everyone from the Progressives to moderates. I wanted her to run with Biden rather than Harris, but failing that working to turn Georgia purple will do just fine. I would love to see her win in 2022. Assuming Ossoff wins here Biden's job gets both easier & harder. It wil lbe easier to do basic, important stuff, but harder to fob off the Progressive wing. He will have to do some serious tightrope walking, as he really does need the left of the party to get parts of the vote out, but he can't burn the moderates who came over to him for sensible stability. I don't know how many politicians can straddle that barbed wire fence without sustaining an unpleasant injury. Guess we will find out. This wil lalso be a massive opportunity for Harris to show what she is up to. If she is to be the anointed one then she will need to show an ability to deal effectively with the full spectrum of the party and moderate Republicans. As the vital tie breaking vote in the Senate she will get that opportunity. Interesting to see how she does.
They don't need any power because they don't care about America. The left on here really hates us Republicans having power. If they win they brag and make it sound like we screwed up big time and if they lose they attack us for 4 years and make it seem like we can't do nothing right and of course they call us names while giving a Free pass to all of the bs on the left. The problem is millions of Americans are just like the left on here. This country is so screwed up its not even funny. 4 years of magats and deplorables and orange man bad but if we say anything about Biden or Harris the left freaks out. I was honestly hoping to hold the Senate for Republicans. Now the Democrats have 2 years to literally screw this country up. Open borders here we come...dreamers welcome and be sure to vote in 2022.
Yup. The GOP "Deficit Hawks" will return. The Best Part (among many) of Democrats taking Control: There WON'T be any IDIOTIC Senate "Election Fraud" Investigation.
Yup. A Bad Night for Trump (and the #MAGA Crowd) Well... Trump Just had 4 Years to "screw up" the Country. And, he did such a good job of screwing up America, that it would be a Miracle if the Dems could even put a dent in all of the Damage that Trump has done to The Republic. Trump should have NEVER been elected in the first place. Trump = A TRAITOR Who Hates America.
You are speaking of Kamala Harris as if she is great... Leaving innocent people on death row to die and hiding the evidence does not make you great. You all attack Donald Trump for every little thing but then support people like Kamala Harris. It's obvious bias because she is a Democrat and Trump was not.
Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell. I like the sound of that. Top order of business for the Senate should be to change their rules to force bipartisan work and to make sure another Mitch McConnell can never happen again. They are evenly split so evenly split the committee chairs. It shouldn't be winner takes all. Return confirmations to 60-40 to force more palatable candidates for both sides. Put in a mechanism to bring legislation and nominations to the floor for debate over the objections of the majority leader. And for God's sake make it a rule that these rules can not be changed unless there is an 80-20 vote. The speaker of the house and senate majority leader should be 1st among equals and not omnipotent.
