I was just wondering if anyone has read these books or is watching the series. I think it is a fantastic series and I plan on reading the books soon (I just bought the first book).

    Anyone else?

I have the first Season on DVD and have watched the first 5 episodes of Season 2.

I just recently bought the book. I'm only 26 pages in though.

I want to start the books, but I am reluctant because I don't want to ruin the TV series for myself. Ugh, I think I will start them after this season is over anyways. Enjoy!

Haven't seen the show yet or read the books, but they have been highly recommended and are on my 'must read' list.

I have the First Season on DVD and I'm currently on the Third Book in the series. A fantastic series of books and HBO has kept up with it fairly well.

Glad you say that the series is not too far off from the books, that is what I have heard. I can't stand it when producers completely abandon the books that these shows are based off of.

It's true. The series follows the books fairly closely with a few changes here and there.

I've read 4 of the books and will pick the 5th up soon.

If you think that it's been brutal so far... well, let's just say that you ain't seen nothing yet.

Read the books AND watch the series. The books are excellent, and once you reach the end of the 5th, you'll probably end up like me, which is wanting to go to George R. R. Martin's house and poke him with a stick until he finishes the 6th.

The 1st season of this show followed the book closer than I've ever seen any TV or movie adaptation of a story do. The 2nd season seems to be more HBO'd in that they've added a bit of sex and drama that wasn't in the book, or at least not directly. It's still excellent though. Whomever was responsible for the casting should win an emmy for doing a near perfect job.

I agree. The casting is excellent and even the kids are doing a spectacular job.

    For example, this look:

Well, great news then. HBO has already renewed GoT for a third season. The author, George RR Martin, is reporting that it is another 10 epis but HBO is refusing to confirm the number. GoT's ratings are moving up and up and fans are hoping that HBO commits to more epis per season which would allow more of the complex plot and character interactions to make their way to the screen. In fact, the producers are planning to break the 3rd book into two seasons. :)

I am also hearing more an more people talk about GoT so my guess is that HBO has a runaway hit on its hands.

Stupid George RR Martin made us wait almost a decade for book 5 (and disappointed fans with many missed release dates) , I have no hopes of reading book 6 anytime soon.

I would say read the books before watching the series. I read a critique recently blasting HBO for killing off Ned Stark which aggravated me, I am glad that HBO is sticking to the storyline and doing justice to the books but although the series has not deviated much there still is a ton of back round info missing from it and they are going to have trouble relaying all of it to the audience without a ton of flash backs or something, something they have not gotten into so far.

book 5 took forever because he was nearly done back in 2006 and then once reading through it, threw the whole bloody thing in the trash and started over again. He also lost interest and did other stuff for a bit (as most would). Luckily that shouldn't be the case for the next book. the first few pages have already been released by him as a teaser in fact!

Hopefully he finishes the series before he dies. Old + overweight + sedentary lifestyle = not good usually :(

GRRM is A HUUUUGE giants fan, and apparently the giant named Wun Wun at the end of book 5 is a reference to one one (number 11 Phil Simms of the giants) lol.

well. yes. I watched it and continue to do so. Great acting.especially the litte dude.

It occurs to me that the author had too many elements and had to come up with so many different kingdoms. And somehow he makes them seem realistically concurrent. Haven't read the books but have them on my list. What a head filled with fantasy.

I have hoped the same for years, I wish him the best of health.... at least until he finishes the series.

My friend went to his book signing for book 5 (got me a copy) said he was a great guy, very laid back and funny.

Although I think we does an excellent job especially at bringing to life Tyrion's wit, Tyrion is supposed to be an ugly deformed hunchback dwarf. He kind of looses a piece of the character when he is played by a good looking man, dwarf or not.

No biggie, if you are an HBO subscriber, you can go to HBOGO.com where you can watch the last season. If you have a smart TV or a tablet than you can watch them there also. Watch the first season, then watch the second and you should be good to go.

For the record, I watched in order and I still get a little confused. I have rely on the internet to fill me in.

Maybe the season one episodes are available on-demand, that would work.

I would love to know who I should hate, or like. A good example is this Geoffry, he's quite the witt, but everyone around him seems to be annoyed at how he plays everybody, and is his sister a nut bag?, but it's plain we should all hate her son

And the hot blonde with the dragon?....whats up with that?

And that pervert king guy in the woods.....

    So many questions

Martin has great character development. You have characters you start out hating but end up liking and people in the beginning you cheer for but end up hating. No one is too good or important to get killed off, and for some death is not always an end. I will say no more :)

Not trying to correct you like a school teacher or anything :) but you're thinking of Tyrion who's the witty one, and Joffrey is Cersei's son the king. Danaryus(sp?) is the blonde with the dragons and Crastor is the pervert in the woods(hahaha, your description made me laugh).

You know, I'm done with the books, and I need more content. I'm going to start a game of thrones discussion thread, with the a spoiler warning in the title for anyone that wants to discuss it.
