    Johann Ludwig Uhland
    Ich hatt' einen Kameraden,
    Einen bessern findst du nit.
    Die Trommel schlug zum Streite,
    Er ging an meiner Seite
    In gleichem Schritt und Tritt.

    Eine Kugel kam geflogen:
Gilt's mir oder gilt es dir?
    Ihn hat es weggerissen,
    Er liegt vor meinen Füßen
Als wär's ein Stück von mir

Will mir die Hand noch reichen,
    Derweil ich eben lad'.
'Kann dir die Hand nicht geben,
    Bleib du im ew'gen Leben
    Mein guter Kamerad!

    Richard Wagner

He started in 1925 in Thüringen, tried it in Bavaria, next trying was in Weimar, then he tried it in Hildburghausen, afterwards he tried it in Braunschweig, later in Stadtoldendorf - meanwhile is the year 1932 and finally he was succesfull when he tried it in Braunschweig again - what was a very important step for Germany direction abyss.

"Ich hock in meinem Bonker" is a song from Walter Moers. Very famous German. Probably you are able to find an english version of this song.

They also contributed to WWI and started WWII and brought about more suffering than the world has known.

    Nice people.

David Hasselhof. What do you mean, not German? :-D

Jurgen Prochnow, the Holbeins, the Bachs (someone must have mentioned Bach), Brahms (not List...the UKers will get it), Mozart, Wagner, were the Strausses German?

Lots of Royals and Emperors called Maximilian etc, sadly one Franz who was shot and started a war, Marx, Herman the German (all our canaries were named after him, for the helmet shape markings on their head, sorry Volker), Bismarck, Karl Benz, Daimler, Vorsprung durch Technik (!), Copernicus, Boris Becker...this is too long, there's loads. I'm away...but on the photocopier in work:

"ACTHUNG! Das machine is nicht fur gefingerpoken und mittengrabben. Ist easy schappen der springenwerk, blowenfusen und corkenpoppen mit spitzenspaken. Ist nicht fur gewerken by das dummkopfen. Das rubbernecken sightseeren keepen hands in das pockets. Relaxen und vatch das blinkenlights!!! "

This is so very true, at least the American part. The Germans built this country, and I'm very proud to say I share that ancestry. And, of course, when their immigration pool started running dry we just bested them in WWII and stole their top scientists. :-D The space race wasn't so much the US rocket program vs the Soviet rocket program, but rather the German rocket program vs the Soviet rocket program.

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary of the House of Windsor wasn't born in London, but Westminster. It's like saying you were born in NYC but you actually were born in Brooklyn. But pointless to argue about that as I really don't give a (*)(*)(*)(*) where she was born.

Now she was included in jest. If she's on the list for German, she's on the list for Portugal, Belgium, Bulgaria, and another half dozen other countries.

But does that not mean Hitler also American by virtue of his remaining living family in the US, since Elizabeth wasn't born in Germany but her family came from a German house? That his nephew William Patrick Hitler (changed to Stuart-Houston) who served in the US Navy during WW2 was in fact Hitler's link to be an American? Or Stuart-Houston's 4 sons born the in the US are another link?

But let's stick with your theory he was a "German" due to changing citizenship at the age of 36. Anybody can change citizenship, Hitler did it because he was envious of the German people and he lived in Germany for years, not because he was "German".

He was also a Swiss, which brings us back to the pointlessness of such lists, since many have changed citizenship, held dual ones, etc. For instance, a nationalist Pole might argue that Copernicus was Polish, a nationalist French that Schweitzer lived longer as a Frenchman, etc.

It's the frist time in my life I felt anger when someone said so. It's the misuse of the Star of David in your Avatar what makes me angry. Concrete question: Are you a Nazi using jewish symbols?

Oooh, weird. When Mr. Sarrazin gave a speech in Dresden, this poem was quoted by some opponents ... they looked Middle Eastern ... and it somehow sounded like a death threat, when they said it.

In this case, I dont need to be. Just like I dont need to be a prophet to predict that the sun will rise tomorrow.
