God just doesn't make sense from a "purpose" standpoint

If a super-physical entity had the intention of creating this universe, why would they also add untold numbers of random comets, asteroids, stars, pulsars, black holes etc. that have no apparent relevance to the survival, prosperity and moral development of our species, which apparently is the main species that this super-physical entity cares about, according to MOST (but not all) theists?

That doesn't make sense. Why wouldn't they just cut to the chase, cut out 99.999999% of the universe, and basically just leave our solar system, without the trillions upon quadrillions upon quintillions of other solar systems, planets, stars etc.? That's retarded.

Has anyone here ever wondered this?

    Which probably explains Carl Sagan.And why he didn't live a full life { 62 years }
As he got older he started up with all his Cosmos crap and more & more
discounting the relevance of God and Spirituality.
There's a reason why a lot of simple religious folk live long into their later
years. They trust in the mercy and glory of a Supreme being,a God.
    So Sayeth I.

Mr. Madison, what you've just said is the most...yeah you look up "Billy Madison (1997) quotes" and see what the rest of that quote says.

I'd rather live a short life as a skeptic than a long life as a slave.

Do you really believe that religious people live longer lives because one atheist didn't die at a ripe old age?

This is one of the most idiotic ideas I've ever heard.

Their may very well be a purpose to all of it. Couldn't really tell you myself. I know aesthetically it's all very beautiful. In the end though I don't bother trying to apply human logic to a god if he exists.

of town because a ramp exit had been detoured and yer all by yer lonesome.
It's Dark and getting darker and you see a lot of street hoodlums milling around
    just itchin' for an excuse.
You just tell me that you won't in the least Pray ta God or ask for help
from somebody, anybody. That is where God comes in.

I guess it boils down to mindset.I bet you don't believe in Miracles either.
However, knowing it or not You will be exposed to a Miracle sometime in yer
life.It may be at a car wreck scene.Or some tragedy like a Tornado or Hurricane
or Flood. In Catholicism there are what is known as Mysteries of Faith.
Things that cannot be explained.Like how God,a supernatural being can have
Omniscence or be Omnipotent.Or if God knows ALL { God knows what you are going
to do in life, before you're even born } then why would he let evil or bad acts happen.
That is not for mortals to understand.Just like the notion of Infinity { no ending
    point }.

No. It boils down to facts, and there is no proven correlation between how religious people are and how long they live.

No. Why would I? And, I wouldn't capitalize the word because miracles don't even exist.

That pretty much confirms my suspicions: any unusually-coincidental event is a 'miracle'.

:) Don't even bother. You can't rationalize with a person that believes in the irrational. It's like explaining physics to a cartoon.

If Facts are all it takes then why is History a living text book of conflcit
strife, blight and Society literally at each other's throat.
I mean,to hear guys like you ... Facts should take care of all that.
    What is a Fact anyway.
Tell us what Facts Carl Sagan drummed up.I know he was one of the first
to dispel the myth that our Cosmos had a lot more than one Universe. In fact
" Billions of Billions " and the relative insignificance of Earth in regards to the
Universe.Sagan's far easier predictions on the effects of the Persian Gulf War's
Kuwaiti oil fires where massive plumes of black smoke burned for days.Sagan's
prediction they would infest the stratosphere causing calamity and disrupt agriculture.
    He was wrong.Like Big Time.
A fact is something that is known to exist or has existed.
So tell us all about the countless { literally } Scholars and Statesman, and
    Theologians,Philosophers,Writers,Educators,Nobleman,Warriors and the like
who have spoke often dramatically about God.
Would that not by sheer weight of authority attest to some Fact.
That God may well be THE Most used/recited noun in the history of
all writing.Or is that not a Fact.
    Gotcha !

Yes. Unfortunately, that's a vestige of our superstitious past. Fortunately, as more people turn away from religion, there is less cause to mention the word "god".

To someone who imagines the creator is a "super-physical" entity, I guess you'd be facing a lot of questions.
But for a Christian who humbly acknowledge that he was created for the pleasure of God, everything makes sense.

Why should we think everything out there has to make sense to mere humans like us, if God does not will it?
Is God obligated to explain everything to us? Is He obligated to explain His purpose?

If a human king - or a nation's leader that's elected to power by his own people - does not explain all details of his decision(s) to his subjects,
what more with a God, the CREATOR?

Firstly...stating something "May Well Be", does not allow for the implication it is fact.

However.....something to consider in your pursuit:

Why wouldn't he explain his purpose?
Why does it have to be a secret?
Why do people hide behind "god works in mysterious ways" when they have no answer???

And being "made for the pleasure of god" doesn't make any sense...IF there was a god who made us for his PLEASURE he is a sadist.

Of course that wouldn't make any sense to you. But it does, to a believer.

We're talking about faith here. It's only logical that someone who doesn't think the Christian God is real would find Christianity senseless.

What I find interesting though is that, why would people who think the Christian God is nothing more than a myth would waste time asking questions?
Not that I'm complaining about it, mind you....that's good. Asking questions.

You believe in a whole boatload of myths and you think I'm wasting my time?

And being "made for the pleasure of god" doesn't make sense whether one believes or not...not making sense is not making sense, that can't be changed by "believing".

    Yeah,...
I wondered how things the church people said could make sense, and realized that they had been trying to make sense for a long time, about the stuff they read in the Bible.
But, what held them up was when they bought into some guy's interpretation or argument as to what the scriptures are saying, they immediately called everyone else who had an interpretation a heretic.

Once they believed some guy had solved the problem, and had answered the question about what the Bible is saying, they killed or excommunicated any further discussion or criticism.
And, the religious people are still doing that.

They think they do God a service because they merely have faith in a Faith (or particular interpretation), instead of faith in Truth.

The problem according to the Bible is that a libertarian who is socially liberal in regard to the sexual license given to the people in a society finds fiscal conservatism impossible as the number of young Single Mothers rises to the point where half of all babies born are fatherless bastards who become the criminal element.

The Welfare that pays for teaching young people to be sexually active cost $1 Trillion dollars in 2011.
And, the untold cost to the Courts, the Law Enforcement Agencies, the Prison industry, and the loss of property must be more than welfare.

Fiscal Conservative depends upon using families as the tool for building good citizenship among the next generation, while sexual promiscuity is used to tear down families or never gather people into them.

That's Yer opinion and History has already proved you wrong on that score.
Again ... yer merely a dime a dozen Contrarian. Not even rising to the
    standard of a garden-variety contrarian.Just a boring,One trick pony contrarian.
You enjoy making a fool of yerself on a message board.
In that there is little mystery of faith involved.
