Though the customer was a total prick, this waitress got what she deserved, IMO. http://www.examiner.com/article/god-receipt-waitress-fired-by-applebee-s-for-internet-posting
I see nothing wrong with that the waitress did. The selfish pastor should be banned from that store unless they are prepared to offer a tip.
Another example of why you dont post things about your workplace on the internet..... Right or wrong it gives them the case to fire your ass.
18% ? I read somewhere that 25% is the new norm. I tip 20% for good service (occasionally higher if they go above and beyond), 15% for bad service, and nothing if I am ignored or insulted. (I have worked in the food industry and they have to be REALLY bad for me to do this) But according to some I guess I am still cheap. But even so this pastor seems like a waste.
Can't say I blame the employer... not that I agree, but it's understandable. They're not in business to humiliate folks, even if they're complete lames.
Yea I the pastor deserved it and I hope her career is ruined but you still can't do that in the hospitality service. That's when you be extremely polite and hope the come back. They get a special treat in their food. Paybacks a b***h
I don't tip as long as a person has an employer who is responsible to pay a proper wage or can set their own rates who should set a fee for service that they need to charge. If they don't have the choice of either which is tipped only people usually the self-employed who cannot set a fee for a service I will tip something (bathroom attendants, buskers, people doing odd work for money the homeless such as washing car windows etc.). But whatever the case the server was out of line she had no right dissing a customer who didn't believe in tipping. In fact the 18% added to the bill seems unfair to me but it sadly is legal to have a service charge if properly advertised then one can opt to use that place or go somewhere else.
A so-called pastor who stiffs a working person deserves to go to hell. It's in the Bible. He should read it sometime instead of being a hypocrite. James 5:4-6 (MSG) = All the workers you’ve exploited and cheated cry out for judgment. The groans of the workers you used and abused are a roar in the ears of the Master Avenger. You’ve looted the earth and lived it up. But all you’ll have to show for it is a fatter than usual corpse. In fact, what you’ve done is condemn and murder perfectly good persons, who stand there and take it.
I don't see where the customer "dissed the customer". As far as we know, she simply posted the note, which I assume if the pastor didn't want that note to be public, the pastor shouldn't have given it to someone in a public place. This "pastor" is an arrogant a--hole. Particularly since the pastor bragged about her OWN contributions "to God", which is COMPLETELY against Jesus' teachings,. The pastor is a Pharisee.
Workers should not be exploited but the Pastor is NOT the employer, I'm not a persons employer unless I hire and employ them so why is the Pastor out of line the employer is the one charged to treat workers well this includes many of the Proverbs. In fact workers are to work hard, rulers to be fair in their rule and so forth. Unless I read the proverbs wrong in a lot of places? The Pastor was not the employer and I would think if they had the tip options he would have left 10% but he was not given a choice. I don't see where it says if someone works for someone else your obligated to make up the low wages and benefits with your money though, that is charity or panhandling nothing more. Now if someone is a bathroom attendant and its a sparkling clean bathroom and they made my visit a nice one then I should tip they have no employer so they are working and I benefit. Same for a busker your on the sidewalk performing and I like it your working just for tips and I will toss something in the hat.
Took the words right out of my mouth. End thread. Take away the voting rights of all who participated in this thread seriously.
The "pastor" did not display the type of behavior that his supposed religion advocates. Therefore he should be condemned as a false preacher.
I just went to Applebee's website. I can't find a single thing on any page about any mandatory tip for any size party. Customers shouldn't have to find that out after they get there, get seated or when they get the bill. That's as dishonest as it gets if they do. I go to a places website to see the menu, pricing and other information before I actually go there. Any joint that would have to stoop to that won't be in business very much longer unless they have outrageously good food. If they do, then they can charge the proper food pricing to pay the employees properly without the gratuity surprise.
Most states require if a restuarant does this there be a notice properly posted, a notification on the table or in the menue and usually be told about the service charge in some combination.
He didn't think paying 18% added to the bill was right and since god asked for 10% why did they want 18%, seems fair but since it was a service charge and I assume it was posted properly to be legal he had to pay it. I find it amusing food servers expect such and such a tip say 20% like its the law of the land and on YouTube they whine about bad tippers. Tipping was for a long time on top of ones wages and 10% was a decent tip, seems to me instead of blaming the customer for their bad incomes they need to as an industry deal with this with the employers and the IRS.directly if you include all who get tips or who benefit from tips its a BIG lobby. I just see no reason to tip the food server gets a wage, in Florida higher than many states in fact and then they expect me to support them that is not my job that is the employers obligation. If I go to McDonalds for a meal no one begs for my money they get a wage and what benefits they agreed to for their labor and always are good to me.
When I go to a bar or restaurant, I tip 10% by default. 0% if bad service, and possibly a little higher if decent service.
I'm sorry to pick you out personally because I recognise this is a fundamental cultural issue but please read back what you wrote there. You give a 15% tip, 15% more than the value of the service for bad service?!? Can you think of any other product where you would respond to bad service by paying more than the bill? In a lot of situations, bad service would be an argument for not paying at all. This is really a ridiculous situation that you guys really need to dig yourselves out of, not least because it's started infecting our restaurants too.
I vastly prefer to tip well rather than paying someone to do nothing and create illegitimate children as a career path.
