Half of China lives destitute while the other half lavishes off that half. Yeah, sorry if I don't subscribe to the Chinese economic model. And of course, said model requires slave wages and intellectual property theft, none of which the tariffs were able to deal with. This doesn't make China superior to the American economic engine, it makes them better thieves.

History is written by the winners. Idiots that fancy themselves "academics" are never winners. If they were they wouldn't be academics.

I’m not completely sure what political persuasion has to with historians, but Trump was definitely the worst in my life time.

I’d quibble with the ranking (in my lifetime) of the Reagan and Clinton administrations because many of the poor economic decisions that’s got the majority of population pissed now occurred then.

Recently I had reason to purchase electronic test equipment. After an exhaustive search I ended up purchasing all Chinese equipment because the American equivalents were over priced and under featured. The Chinese products had technology that greatly surpassed what was available in the American products. Tektronix used to be the electronic test equipment company. Just about every electronics lab around the world used Tektronix oscilloscopes. Then Danher bought them. Here we are, a decade later, and they can no longer compete. As American corporations drive the country into the ground, the Chinese march ahead.

Trump left office with fewer jobs then when he took office and the unemployment rate was much higher

Why is it, I wonder, that so many conservatives use names and avatars that are less than flattering?

Dying early is not reason to rank someone low. Meanwhile, trump is still holding rallies and telling people that he’ll be reinstated by august.
We may need to drive a stake through his heart to get him to go away.

I think the indictment of its company will do pretty much the same thing. It has become too pathetic, too damaged to ever hold office again. Of course conservatives will claim all manner of things.

Albert Einstein was a rare academic that wasn't completely worthless. I would say there are a few of those but it's not the norm.

Most academics are in that field because nobody else would have them.

Think about how many you skipped over to cite Albert Einstein. You had to reach back to the 1920s for an example that was four generations ago. You skipped over thousands possibly hundreds of thousands of academics that don't matter to find one that does.

Lol…Is Stephen Hawking recent enough for you?

So left leaning historians will rank Trump low while conservative historians will rank him higher. Gee…go figure. All rankings are subjective and therefore shouldn’t be taken seriously…if you’re a grown adult.

Despite how awful Trump was, it still seems a bit much to judge his tenure as worse than #43.

Prior to 2020 I would have put Trump in the middle of the pack for presidents. Not terrible, not great.

But his failed response to COVID dropped him lower and then his actions from Nov 5th to Jan 20th put him at the very bottom of the list.

the kochs have been endowing professors of economics, law, history, sociology etc for decades. these are not tenured positions.

Proof That Koch-Backed Professors Are Using Universities To Spread Right-Wing Policies – ThinkProgress

add the faculties of religious institutions like liberty and orel roberts, the utah systems, and catholic institutions like georgetown and notre dame (among numerous others) and there are a multitude of conservative professors of every subject. including science and engineering.

my own alma mater is home of the van mises institute, students (yes, all professors are students. if a doctor of anything claims to know it all he is probably wrong. )of a really regressive economic theory. fortunately i learned keynes later.

but, one would think, even conservative professors would research original sources in their original languages and be called out in their journals by equally well read peers. the peers can be right, or they may be wrong. it took einstein's peers a few decades to prove, mathematically and experimentally that under specific conditions relativity explains the universe more precisely than newtonian mechanics.

It's not a question of political orientation, it's a question of educational level.

Among the 55% of Republicans who still believe Trump won, there are few with a college degree.

The same goes for those who still show up at his rallies.

You're a Historian. You have spent a fortune gathering your credentials and decades of your time spent gaining them. (K-doctorate) EDIT: And now you have no real marketable skills. What political bent do you think such a person is going to have? I bet skilled car mechanics have a very different view.

But unless you're a snob who might call the vast majority of this nation "flyover country", you should be interested in that car mechanic's views.
