Watched The Tall Man last night...

    Good movie...

But, it ended as something entirely different than I thought it would...

I rented - Drag Me to Hell - {2009} and as I paid the clerk told me I already rented
the movie.I said,I don't remember.Got home and noticed the movie.
I didn't watch the entire movie. It bored me.So I never saw the the scene that was
in the trailer.Which is what I got jazzed over.
Obvioulsy I didn't remember the Ttitle ... whatsoever.

    Yes!!!

It was so gloriously over the top, and, I kid you not, I went to the theater 3 times to watch it, and bought it when it came out, and, have watched at least 30 times since...

    Probably more...

What's the scariest horror film you've ever seen - not necessarily the best, but the scariest?

If I had to throw one right off the top of my head, I'd say The Exorcist...

Well, part of it may be that I grew up with a religious background, so, demonic possession creeps me out by default, but, to me, everything scary about that movie is done exactly right...

Regan's makeup, as her possession takes shape & intensifies, is crazy...

Every time you see her, it's gotten worse...

The gutteral voice they use when the demon is talking is especially troubling coming from a little girl...

The setting in the room is always dark, and, very creepy, and, serves to intensify the events taking place...

The "subliminal" images you see throughout the movie creep me out, too...

I didn't notice them until I was older, and, I was really surprised when I finally saw them clearly...

Also, some of the added scenes in the re-release were crazy, i.e. the spider walk scene...

    I don't know...

It just seems like, as they were making a demonic possession movie, they hit on all of the necessary elements, and, successfully made a genuinely scary movie...

There are other extraordinarily scary movies, though...

Just to name a few, Insidious, Event Horizon, Rosemary's Baby, The Omen, In The Mouth of Madness, Pet Sematary, It (with the exception of that atrocious ending), and others...

You might also enjoy "The Curse" and "Let the right one in".

Which version of The Curse are you referring to?

I went to look it up on IMDB, and, there's a ton movies by that title apparently...

I started to watch Let The Right One In a couple of months ago, but, it was real late, and, I fell asleep on it...

It is one I'm interested in, though...

A lot of times, I get that movie confused with Let Me In, with Chloe Moretz, who, by the way, is starring in the Carrie remake, that I'm extremely anxious to see next year...

Make sure its the Swedish version. Yeah Carrie will be good to see. Hopefully I wont be disappointed. Has "The Possession" been released in the US yet? The trailer looks good and I'm curious if the film leaves up to it. It comes out a little later in Australia apparently.

    OK, I'll check for it...

Carrie is looking like it's going to be good, so far...

Also, Julianne Moore is playing Carrie's mom, so, they did great casting the two starring roles...

And, yes, The Possession came out about a month ago here...

I still need to see it...

Hard to find time for the movies these days though...lol

I'm an old guy and by the standards of the day it was known as a "horror" back then. But then, you may well have a point about it today.

Over the top Horror Movies are terrrible.Destroys any credibility. But then
    - Hellraiser - is over the top.But the storyline and way the movie flows { continuity }
makes up for overblown graphics. However the Hellish villains are credible.

What really sucks is Movies like - Suspiria - {1977} which has a cult following.
Personally I find it worthless.Basically the storyline is like most Italian crap,
meant more for International appeal, where storyline means little to nothing.
Just the overuse and constant harping of literary device like Bathos thru juxtaposition.
Or Imagery as used to intensify a scene where good writing would be
of better use.In - Suspiria - the use of color intensification is supposed to
shock and alarm the senses into a feeling of more horrific than actual.
It's pure theatrics, that is not based in any deep horror sense { Horror has to
originate thru the mind and senses { see, feel, imagine } to be effective. That is
where Sound plays a key role.A creeking door or shrill cry in the night.
I find - Suspiria - to be kinda silly.Like almost ALL Italian horror.
Mario Bava flicks are just a waste of time.

o forgot one of my top faves, the very first resident evil, the rest are horrible, and the one coming out looks like it will be the worst of the entire series from the trailer.

Herbert Lom just died at age 96. Does anyone remember his heart-wrenching performance in the 1961 version of the Phantom of the Opera?
