Schumer says "there will be an impeachment trial" in the Senate


Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said an impeachment trial can "begin immediately" if they can reach an agreement with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

“A Senate trial can begin immediately, with agreement from the current Senate majority leader to reconvene the Senate for an emergency session, or it will begin after January 19," Schumer said in a statement. "But make no mistake, there will be an impeachment trial in the United States Senate; there will be a vote on convicting the president for high crimes and misdemeanors; and if the president is convicted, there will be a vote on barring him from running again."

Some context: McConnell has made clear in a statement to fellow senators that Trump's impeachment trial won’t start until after Jan. 19.

 

I posted the one that the Democrats claim is the call to insurrection. And if we now make a politician telling his consitituents to fight for what they believe in then inciting insurrection about every politician will have to removed. His OPINION about the election is not an impeachable offense. You don't understand my government and it's Constitution and no amount of rational factual conversation will change your misguided notions.

How many signed affidavits did they submit from witness saying Trump told them to engage in violence and insurrection?
What was the Presidents legal teams responses and rebuttals to their allegations?
What were the exact quotes they cited, in their entirety not partial phrases, they provided of Trump telling people to go to the Capital and engage in violence and insurrection?

Ahhh doesn't the President get to first see the charges and put together his defense team and get his witness and affidavits to present? Does the loyal opposition get to put together it's rebuttal? The Chief Justice will have to agree to a schedule too. All that will go past his leaving office and the only THE President at that time will be Biden and the Constitution says it can only impeach and remove THE President.

And you want to strangle the Congress with this unnecessary nonsense instead of getting Biden's cabinet confirmed, COVID relief passed, and helping people in the economice recovery. Biden laid out a huge amount of things he pledged to get done in the first 100 days and claimed they are the highest priority for the government right now and that will ALL go on the backburner until this is over.

 

The House is not the trial end of an impeachment. That's for the Senate.
And given that most of the House members were actually involved in the incident, I think they had a pretty good understanding
of what happened.

You can't get more of a dodge than that, you really think Trump is the first politician to tell his constituents they need to fight for their causes? Biden supporters marched on DC and attacked the White House injuring 60 Secret Service, they attacked the Supreme Court Building and fortunately in both the people in charged of security as opposed to Nancy Pelosi at the Capital did not turn down the assistance the Executive Branch was offering and failed to protect the Capital. Trump is free as anyone else to voice his opinion about the outcome of the election, just as Hillary for four years has claimed she really won and it was Trump colluding with Russia which was a big lie, Biden used that in his campaign. Harris voted to remove Trump on bogus charges of impeachment already. Hillary told Biden that if he lost he should NEVER concede and Trump is just taking her advice.

So if this is now a crime and grounds for removal we have LOTS of politicians and civil rights leaders and environmentalist we need to start charges with crimes. And as soon as Biden and Harris get inaugurated we can start their impeachments, heck Harris was giving financial support to anarchist and insurrectionist engaged in violence and attacking the police.
