The typical Christian response to that question is, "Christians aren't perfect. They are just FORGIVEN!" Or they will tell you all the evil horrible things they would be doing if they didn't fear their monstrous god. Apparently Christians don't value human decency for the sake of human decency but only in response to a carrot and stick. But maybe someone around here can come up with a more intelligent response.

How has being a Christian made you a better person?

Well, as a sanctimonious and self-righteous modern Christian, the teachings of my "faith" allow me to judge the lifestyles of others thus providing the emotional boost that I need by allowing me to condemn them instead of looking inward and addressing my own serious flaws.

People can only be nice if they're Christian. If they're not a Christian and they do something nice, they're still going to hell.

Is this you being nice? If so I opt for hell because the real hell for me would be to be stuck in a heaven full of people like you.

I know a late convert or two (coming to the Lawd well into adulthood), and they're slightly less pleasant after being seized in the spirit. It's the added layer of smugness, I think. Plus that little glint of crazy to the eye.

Having said that, a couple of the old codger christians I know are lovely folk - apart from their preference for fear-based proselytisation. I suspect they were always thus, and that possession by the sky fairies hasn't altered much of their cultural 'goodness'.

You would think that after 11 hours and 39 views SOMEBODY would have SOMETHING to say in their own defense. You can tell just as much about these so called "Christians" from what they don't say as you can from what they do say.

The ones who hang about this crummy joint do seem to specialise in avoidance.

I'm particularly interested in the question "how do you know god is good?". I've been waiting, literally, years for a straight answer to this. I don't care what the content of that answer is, I just want one that isn't "I can feel just it in my waters". You'd think the first order of business of anyone truly interested in 'truth and goodness' would be to ascertain that they weren't being duped. That is to say, 'feeling' something is true is absurd. If you're going to build a life around it, it's needs to BE true. Unless you're the sort who 'feels' that the used car salesman is honest, and doesn't check to make sure that the 23 year old car with 350,000 miles on the clock 'runs like a dream' before plunking down your life savings. And we all know that popularity, or parental approval, amounts to nothing. McDonalds is evidence of the former, and there are plenty of victims of bad parenting in the world to attest to the latter.

Stockholm Syndrome easily demonstrates how even pure evil can be made to seem good in skilful hands - and this is when adults are involved. Start with small children and you can literally teach them anything and make it seem 'right'.

You can't think of a way it has made you a better person?

I kind of side with you on that, I dont see any reason to make invidious comments about all Christians.

Specific cults or individuals / strange ideas of individuals make themselves fair game of course.

I have had the same problem where I asked people to name biblical characters they liked.
    No believers have listed anyone.

Oooh, nice angle on that one. I'm only made better by the Holy Spirit, friend. You know that.

If you mean more informed, yes, that is my ultimate purpose here.

Most of the threads are very predictable. If I were to post in that one and say that Jesus, for example, is the Bible character I like most; next come the usual posts about the historicity of the Bible - Jesus may have been a guy from Nazareth around the time of Pilate and so forth. Then someone who thinks they're really clever will call Jesus the son of himself. Of course there will be several insults to the person of Christ. There will be moral judgments cast upon God Himself.

But the real fun, and the easy part to get away with, is attacking faith. A person can ramble on about what is real or perceived based on logic and reason, what can be observed and so on. Members will put streaks of big words together to try to sound intelligent, because they think it bolsters their argument for the superiority of naturalism.

    Does this sound about right?

Not really, in this case. My thread asked for favorite characters from the bible, even if you considered it to be fiction, so that wouldn't have been a fair response in the case of my thread.
How has your faith made you a better person?

All of the "people of faith" here seem quite unaffected by anything in the bible suggesting that they refrain from spreading falsehoods.

When I see one cease to make things up for their posts, I will be quite impressed.

The atheists here do not seem to need to resort to falsehood in order to state their case.

The faithful do have a bit of an advantage, tho, in that they seem able to bask in a golden glow of righteousness while they commit themselves to the most outlandish mendacity.

I don't participate in most threads, just the ones that interest me. Sorry, no interviews. Make it a thread. If it interests me, I may respond.

Everything anyone ever says that characterizes your posts in a way you don't like, you call falsehoods. You'll call that a falsehood! Then you'll tell me what a lousy Christian I must be that I don't treat you with kid gloves every time you put your foot in your mouth ridiculing the Word.

I was referring to the question about faith.
