I wanted to be a writer and work in art or Social Science. Given that my ideas are not Politically Correct I had a second option -- a very simple job plus freelance writing/art. Unfortunately I got a PhD in Math and wasted many years of my life. Now I am looking to start from scratch.
What the hell are you talking about? You haven't failed at anything. You have a freakin PhD! That's a great accomplishment. Now put it to work.
I am grateful to my parents for supporting me through my Autism and Depression. But the decision to do the PhD was a mistake. I am a loser until I start earning money. Without earning power I am a non-person.
A person who earns good money does not need an excuse. Many people would consider Larry Flynt immoral but he is a hectamillionaire. A person who earns nothing has no weight in Society.
If you have decided to fail, then you are a success. Only until you decide to succeed, will you learn if you really are a failure.
OK. Most people do not understand the impact of disability. In any case I will start tutoring very soon. Preparing profile right away.
Sure you can. Once you have given up seeking success, then you have decided to fail. If you have not tried to succeed, you cannot know whether you have failed. Failure is freedom, as is success, and both are a conscious decision. Also, you said: This is also untrue. One of the most successful people I ever knew was homeless. Because 'happiness' is the only true success, and the pursuit thereof is an inalienable right.
I do not know. Is success not measured by money? Larry Flynt is called immoral but he is a hectomillionaire.
What's stopping you from reaching out to a tutoring agency and being a math tutor. You'd be a highly paid one too. What about teaching? What about working in engineering or government contracts that need people who are great with math?
You get to measure success for yourself, using whatever criteria is important to you. My homeless friend would tell you he's the most successful person on the planet because he lives a happy life the way he wants to live it. Nothing would make him more miserable than working some menial job. He would consider having to resort to working for a paycheck as a personal failure. By contrast, my financial advisor might consider him to be one of the least successful people on the planet, because he judges success by different criteria. But, nobody gets to judge anyone else's success. Only YOU get to determine that. Only after you have decided you are a failure, have you failed... unless failure was your goal.
Perhaps you have a point. I like talking to people. If I earn at least spare money I can have my own website.
Start looking at easier jobs to get. Take an easy side job until the one you want comes around. I worked at Dunkin Donuts 5 weeks before I found my old job as a government contractor. At least I had some money coming in.
Wait, whut? The way you wrote it, it sounds like you were pursuing a degree and then at the end of it realized you accidentally got a PhD in math when you meant to get it in the arts. I'm sure I'm just reading you wrong, right?
To me it sounded like he received the PhD first, and then decided he wanted to be a writer or work in social science? I could be wrong
"There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way." - I forgot who said this. Many people who have less than you wish they had the education that you have. People that are more successful than you often feel like they have wasted their lives. People are often unhappy because they don't know how to be happy, or content with what they have. You're very fortunate to have parents that are able to support you, and to have the smarts to get a Phd in math. That's something that only a small percentage of people can do. Have you ever thought of doing youtube videos where you break down common misconceptions that people have using you're math skills? Kind of like "Freakonomics." That would let you be creative and put your education to use. If you monetize your videos and get enough followers, you can make a decent living and never have to leave home. And you work whatever hours you like.
Wow you've got such a materialistic concept of what life is all about that I'm betting you're not a Christian, no wonder you're unhappy..
