He thought you did, (otherwise why would he react as he did?), and that was enough to create the accident which could have had fatal consequences. Sorry but your excuses are pathetically inadequate. Are you not man enough to shrug-off an insult?
You, sir, did an idiotic and potentially very dangerous thing and I'm amazed that you can't acknowledge that, frankly. "Karma" could have got him killed because he called you a bad name. Would that have been well-deserved, in your opinion?

They will call him a lazy welfare mooch.

Some people can't afford cars. Ironically, most cyclists are drivers that CHOOSE to cycle.

You are right, how dare I put a bully, a relative thug in his place. Perhaps the next person wouldn't have been so lucky, if the muscle bound steroid addicted animal would have gotten his hands on them. OR maybe this little lesson made him stop and think about his overly aggressive attitude which might have gotten him shot or worse threatening the wrong person. Probably not but it didn't work that time anyway.

No I will not apologize for the results of his own actions.

Perhaps you shouldn't allow your ego to get the better of you in future. A "bully"? Who was the one sitting in a 2-ton steel truck making gestures implying that he was going to run the guy off the road-but it's his fault for misinterpreting your gesture? The potential for death or injury was entirely of your making. Had you simply ignored him and driven off you would have been the better man for it.
And now he's a "muscle bound steroid addicted animal"? And you wonder why cyclists get defensive when attitudes like yours are displayed.

I didn't have an attitude, or create the situation, he did. Ignoring bullies only embolden them.

When I give a courtesy bump on the horn it is because the idiot on the bicycle is riding radically, and I am letting them know I am coming around them. Same thing when I come across some drunk driving down the road veering from one side of the road to another. The faster and further you can get away from these idiots the better.

Jesus Christ people, show some frickin common sense. Cyclists get over when you can and let traffic pass, motorist respect the cyclist right to use the roadway. Civilized compromise where everyone should be relatively happy with the outcome.

Your last sentence says it all. Perhaps, instead of inflaming matters further, you should have followed your own advice.

Today I probably would. I was much younger then and I don't heal as good as I used too.

I love this incredibly stupid idea that a honk is somehow a courtesy. Clearly shows they've never been on a bike in traffic before.

Horns are designed to be loud enough to be heard with windows down in your sound proof steel cage. To a cyclist it's loud and jarring. It may even cause an accident for an inexperienced cyclist. No cyclist needs a horn to know you're behind them. They can hear your engine just fine. You wouldn't honk at a motorcycle to let them know you're behind them. Why would you honk at a bike?
