it'd be a disaster for the US, because Trump's sanctions don't have support abroad, and are actually only approved by a minority of our elected leaders, who are generally old, white and affluent. Oil prices would go up suddenly, and as the OP noted not go down in the short term, and that would cause not just hardship but even hunger and worse for people worldwide and even in the US
