seems to me the straight is in range of groundbased missiles and airpower from iran, sending in a carrier fleet in there would be a very bad idea

Iran can't close the strait of Hormuz. It's just it isn't theirs to close - the half of it belongs to Oman or whatever country that was.
That doesn't mean I agree with the White House policy regarding Iran though.

Sometimes it's about picking the devil you know, over the devil you don't know. Iran has been, and still is the largest state sponsor of terror, and unlike SA is attempting to build a nuclear weapon

Ah, the warmongers reveal their true colors again.

But, remind me, if it is so easy to crush the Iranians, why exactly are they a threat and why did we need to break the treaty?

In what way is Iran unstable other than from the continual war mongering and interference from the US and Israel?

Oh, that stupid claim again. Why don't you list the worldwide terrorist attacks sponsored by Iran? And don't just link to wiki.

You can’t really point to a single one on a list. They fund terror organizations. They’ve been on the list of state sponsored terror countries for 35 years running.

There is no "Western coalition." NATO, for example, is built by Westerners predominately to oppose other Westerners. Europeans don't care very much if Iran gets nuclear weapons, and to the extent they do care only want to use peaceful means to achieve their goal.

But we do have key allies. Turkey is one, both as a counter to Russia and as a counter to Iran.

No, it's a naval slog with Americans having to clear mines, missile systems, and sure, sunken ships to get through.

The Iranians need to slow us down at sea while advancing on land.

Being on a state sponsored terror list dictated by the country that killed millions of innocent Iraqis is kind of the pot calling the kettle black.

They aren’t just on our list. Other countries have their lists too, and they include Iran.

And funny how I just said they’ve been on the list for 35 years running. That’s quite sometime before the Iraq war, don’t you think?

Considering the fairly open discussion about invading Iran in the passed and all the other hostile acts it makes sence to build one to keep itself safe
Iran May be fairly extreme they are Not suïcidal or stuppid like north Korea is at times

Pretty sure the US is by far a bigger sponsor of terrorist and other scum killing innocents worldwide.

Iran at best is using a few local groups in middel East to avance his own cause VS a dominant sunni majority. Doesnt affect europe or us much if at all maybe Israël a bit i gues.

I have yet to hear from iranian shiite terrorists in europe or americ but i certainly heard of arabians turkish and others mainly from the sunni group blowing themself up

You do realize that Iran has threatened this with EVERY president. Were you paying attention when Obama's idiotic attempt to cut off Iranian oil revenue or is your memory only selective?

When it was Obama threatening Iran with military action, that was diplomatic but when Trump does the exact same thing it's warmongering.... Interesting.

    1. You are correct that 20% of the world's oil passes through The Straits. However, 85% of that goes to Asia markets....mainly China. I suspect that China would have some words with Iran if the Strait was closed. While it will impact world oil prices, the impact on the US will likely be minimal.
    2. We have all seen it before. However, the situation is much different than it was in the past. The US is producing more oil ourselves and the world is not as dependent on Saudi oil. Also, the construction of oil pipelines in the region has diminished the importance and need of the Strait of Hormuz significantly.
    3. You seem to act like this threat is new. It is not. Iran made this threat in:
    • 1988 Iran mined the Strait which resulted in a one-day naval battle (Praying Mantis) between Iran and the US
    • 2008 in reaction to possible US or Israeli attack.
    • 2011 in reaction to sanctions
    • 2012 (reaction to US fleet heading to Hormuz)...there was even World condemnation over this threat and almost instigated military action by US, Britain, & France. The Eu even imposed their own sanctions on Iranian oil over this incident.
    • 2018 in reaction to the US withdrawing from JCPOA.

Sadly, it seems the nastier the ruler is over in the ME is, the better it is overall. The leading lunatic is able to control the masses of lunatics. Sort of like how Sadam was sort of the right guy for the job. Its not like logic, reason and Democracy works over there=) We just need to have utter control over the asylum, until we're no longer dependent on oil. THEN we can literally tell the entire region to pound sand and let them eat each other. It's not like there is any value at all over there, besides oil. They offer absolutely nothing to the rest of the world. Iran, the Saudis, most of the ME. Good bye. EU better start building a big wall, because guess where they're going to go?
