Israel's goal is to rid Gaza of Hamas. Prior to 2005 Hamas was under control in Gaza and the Gazan people enjoyed a fairly high standard of living and low (10%) unemployment. After Israel left Hamas took control by force and created the humanitarian disaster of Gaza today. In WW2 the Nazi's and Japan's samarai military were eradicated into an ineffective fringe organizations. The same needs to be done to Hamas. Israel is doing that working at enormous cost of blood and treasure. The world and the Gazan civilians owe the IDF a debt of gratitude.
