AS for fewer foreigners being good news, tell that to the travel industry, the hospitality industry, the education industry. But I get how you'd be comfortable with tens of thousands of your fellow citizens being directly impacted losing business and jobs, so you can feel comfortable in your skin.

As the dumbing down of america continues its relentless march. Given how much a post secondary education costs in america its not surprising many young people are choosing a different path.

I must be having a senior's moment but I can't seem to find a source for statistics on post secondary vocational enrollment that would indicate if many are opting for the "trades".

Universities sell students dead degrees, these poor students have debts they can never repay nor does it guarantee them a job in that field. It's atrocious.

We need a complete review of the curriculum, the way these Universities suck students dry financially and the risks they pose for exporting our science

I think its more to do with the high chances of getting a good job from an affordable education vs the low chances of getting a great job from an expensive education.

The cushy liberal arts careers are all obfuscated behind a maze of bureacracy just to figure out where to submit the job application request form. You go find them because they don't really need you.

Welder and heavy equipment operator jobs are spammed all over craigslist. They damn near come find you, cuz they need you now.

 

I always wondered who would do that? A couple times I was hired to take someone else's job, when i found out i told the person that hired me to shove it I quit.

Its only an anecdotal observation, but in what seems like a big chunk of new scientific papers published in North America, particularly in the area of physics and material science have first generation chinese scientists in leadership positions. I presume you meant the implied national security threat of intellectual property theft.

|As for its all for the money, I don't think it fair to paint the entire industry with the same brush. For instance in publicly funded universities it's about not spending what you don't have, not about making as much as you can.

Anyone that believes businesses and jobs can grow if we have a diminishing population obviously doesn't believe in supply and demand??It is rather pointless to manufacture if there is shrinking demand.

 

I think the topic of this thread is just the education industry. And on that count, I'm skeptical that actual jobs were lost because few foreign students showed up. I am sure however, that more college seats for Americans became available.

 

Walmart and McDonald's was starting people off at $17 bucks an hour a few years ago in some towns in South Dakota, why was that?
