The U.S. House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol's legitimacy is unassailable.

The courts have consistently upheld Congress’ right to undertake such activities. One of the Constitution’s framers, George Mason, said during its drafting that members of Congress "are not only legislators but they possess inquisitorial powers."

Congress has undertaken investigations over the past two centuries including the Teapot Dome corruption scandal in the 1920s, the Watergate scandal that led to Nixon’s resignation, and Trump's goons attack on Congress in 2021.

    Do you "deflect" much......

Let me repeat ..... It is not Trump's job to put the guard at the capitol.

I asked you when are they going to start investigating what they are supposed to be investigating then instead of trying to find a crime for which to charge Trump?

And I already have cited over and over Congressional committees and not authorized to conduct investigations and issue subpoenas merely for the sake of "exposure".

Again what "truth" have you learned that is so vital that you didn't know before?

Why do right-wingers throw around the Constitution as if they had ever read anything other than the 2nd Amendment (and even that one, poorly)?

Try to keep up.... this has already been covered.... no where does it say the president is to send the guard into the capitol.... boy would you all not have a field day with a "military coup" if he had...
    upload_2022-10-6_15-50-10.png

    "to the Secretary of Defense"
and here is your Sect of. Defense who the guards are delegated to..... try actually listening to him say he was given all the authority he needed by Trump and needed no further guidance as to what he had been delegated.....

    Despite the fake claims:
Former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows had claimed Trump ordered the deployment of 10,000 troops.

"I was never given any director or order or knew of any plans of that nature," [Acting Secretary of Defense] Christopher Miller testified.

They're free to have meetings about whatever they want. However, their power to subpoena is limited solely for active legislative purposes and only if they cannot draft such legislation without said information. "Uncovering truth" is not a valid goal to compell testimony. Congress has routinely overstepped their authority on this issue, but that doesn't justify it and if someone had the patience to fight it up the courts they would likely ultimately win since there is no active piece of legislation to justify most of those nonsense that's been going on. The truth will be determined by the DoJ. The real goal of this subcommittee is to win political points.

    The Posse Comitatus Act

Documentation show otherwise.... you are confusing "order" and authorizing.... Trump CAN'T ORDER the guards to the capitol... and that is what your post is trying to lead away from....

POTUS CANNOT GIVE A DIRECT ORDER TO SEND THE NAT’L GUARD TO THE CAPITOL.
He can only authorize it and then the local government has to request it.

    Saw this today...

WASHINGTON (AP) — A North Carolina man pleaded guilty Thursday to plotting with other members of the far-right Proud Boys to violently stop the transfer of presidential power after the 2020 election, making him the first member of the extremist group to plead guilty to a seditious conspiracy charge.

Jeremy Joseph Bertino, 43, has agreed to cooperate with the Justice Department’s investigation of the role that Proud Boys leaders played in the mob’s attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, a federal prosecutor said. U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly agreed to release Bertino pending a sentencing hearing, which wasn’t immediately scheduled.

Former Proud Boys national chairman Henry “Ënrique” Tarrio and four other group members also have been charged with seditious conspiracy for what prosecutors say was a coordinated attack on the Capitol to stop Congress from certifying President Joe Biden’s 2020 electoral victory over Donald Trump.

He's a convicted felon who was caught with illegal possession of firearms when they raided his home. This sounds like a plea deal for the prosecution to get a win in the media. Of note, there is no mention of a charge for firearms violations.

Is that your assumption or do you have factual proof?

It's an assumption based on historical actions by prosecutors. It hasn't been uncommon to give a lighter sentence for cooperation which is why they tend to put off sentencing hearings in these cases and announce they'll be cooperating. They've also had instances where they get an agreement to help, and then they find out the person didn't know anything about a "conspiracy."

Thank you for confirming it’s solely an assumption on your part and not based on anything real or factual.

The Committee has performed admirably, thanks to so many Republican officeholders and Trump regime insiders giving their sworn, corroborative testimony concerning the attempts to overthrow the certified results of a democratic election, along with the outnumbered police who defended the Capitol against the Trump goons' attack.

Ending the last public session with an invitation to election-denier Trump to testify under oath was essential. With all the evidence on the table, he can formally offer his refutations in the legitimate venue, or persist in blowing gas where no fidelity to the truth is demanded. That choice itself will be revelatory.

The resolve to reinstitute peaceful transfers of power determined by the People now confronts Trump's alternative vision for America:

    This is absolutely correct.

Which is why I’m so excited to have our congressional committee “investigate” Joe Biden on national TV. Maybe even throw Obama on there to sit with him and hold his hand.

Given the hyper-partisanship the festers in some quarters, it was especially edifying to see so many Republicans of integrity testifying before the Committee.

Might the revelatory inquiry trigger vendetta-driven reprisals? Of course.

    amen

hard to comprehend how anyone would think this committee is anything else than a farce and a political sham. The OP claims it’s exceeded expectations but this very same poster stood behind the russia collusion sham..

This committe is comprised of 7 democrats and 2 vocal never trumper republicans. They also refuse to call any witnesses that would refute their bogus claims. Why didn’t the committee appoint other republicans? This committee is a disgrace, a biased political witchhunt which no-one believes is worth anything… Of course, msnbc and cnn give it much attention but why is that a surprise.

There is nothing there, it’s a disgrace. Trump apparently wants to testify on one condition - it’s broadcasted live. I guarantee you the committee will refuse as they know trump would ruin them, crash their party. Let’s see if they agree to let Trump testify live, they have too much to hide to allow any form of transprency. Trump exposing them as a bunch of frauds on live national TV would be too damaging. What do they have to hide? Let Trump testify and televise it live. :)

Don't get too excited. You see... the problem with investigating somebody just because right-wingers like yourself are running low on talking points is that, in the end, they're going to have to either SHOW real clear indisputable evidence that they're guilty of something (like the January 6 committee already has) or they'll have to come out and ADMIT that they found no criminal wrongdoing by the politician they investigated, thereby exonerating them.

Take Hillary, for example (just an example, and not the topic of this thread), She has been investigated and exonerated more times than ANY other person.... probably in history. Do you think it's easy for right-wingers to have to come out again and again to exonerate her and publicly admit that she committed no crimes? It's not! Now... if they want to exonerate Biden and Obama (Obama would be particularly embarrassing for them), be my guest. That would bite them in the ass worse than it did with Hillary. Because at least what Hillary did "appeared" improper. But the other two.... other than calling on dead people to come up to the stage (which was very funny, but not improper), there is not much to investigate...

So that might work for you for a couple of months or so.... You'll have something to WRITE about in this forum, like it did while Hillary was on the hot seat. But then comes the backlash. In the form of ME reminding you that you asked for this investigation, and now that they are exonerated, you just keep grasping for more straws.

Again, these are just examples. Not the topic of this thread. The January 6 Committee did what you are supposed to do in these cases. Come out FIRST with the evidence since the very start and THEN make the public appearances. If they can't do that, right-wing lawmakers probably know better (or they should have learned by now to now better) than to even try.

I for one was extremely surprised to hear the committee voted 9-0 to subpoena Trump.

I was not surprised that they wanted to use this as an additional form of harassment.

But I was surprised that this now leaves the door open for this so called Committee to not have to be resurrected after the new House takes shape with a new set of rules.

The old term "what goes around comes around" might just turn out to be very distasteful for some Democrats. I can now envision some of these members now cry that it is unfair.

Oh well hell that’s not a problem.

We will just do the same thing the Jan 6 committee did.

We will shorten and edit testimony… not because we are trying to hide anything of course but just because we have time constraints for our television special. We will ask leading questions and present them as evidence which would never be allowed in a court of law, but don’t worry this is just an investigation, not a court of law. We will ONLY produce evidence that helps our case and refuse to present exculpatory evidence even if we find it.

And of course we will have 12 sitting house members unequivocally state over and over again on primetime television their investigative target is guilty of criminal activity. And of course no defense can be present because… you know it’s just an investigation and not a trial.

We can plaster Hunter Biden’s laptop on national television for everyone to see, even if the chain of custody is questionable, we just won’t bring that part up, because of course chain of custody only matters in the trial, not our publicly televised prime time special investigation.

But don’t worry, IF we EVER decide to bring ACTUAL charges in a court of law and not just try to smash them in the court of public opinion, they’ll get to defend themselves then.

I’m not worried about being able to make them look guilty lol

Of course you would want to do that. But then you would have to wait for Trump (or somebody like him) to become a Democrat and raise to the Presidency. The thing is that when that happens, I won't care because I'll be a Republican.

Don't forget convincing the witnesses (their own attorneys, their closest inner circle and their own family) to not protest as they put even themselves in legal jeopardy, because the committee did that. Because NONE of them have. And that's crucial if you are going to manipulate testimonies.

You would need to put in place a conspiracy that involved everybody.... and I mean EVERYBODY. From camera people, to the witnesses who testified, to the witnesses who DIDN'T testify, to judges who have already sent people to jail... Even an actor who LOOKS like them, like the one we got to play Trump on VIDEO doing EXACTLY what the witnesses say he did.

I don't think even Q could pull all of that conspiracy together for you guys like Al Gore did wi... oops!
