We covered about everything that pertains to the issue in the thread about the Cowpens. A lot of people said that the Cowpens should have engaged the Chinese fleet at that time, but they don't understand that this was already accomplished by the mere presence of US Naval forces in the area.
If China or anyone believes that the rules are sketchy for their share of shipping security in that area, they need to engage diplomatically with the concerned Nations, and draw up new rules. Has this already happened? only if/when the rules are compromised does anyone have any business even implying military action of any kind.
At this point in the game, the bigger players in the world economy have to take a more mature approach to conflict. It's very much like any person who grows old, and has to start giving things up, like alcohol, sugar, and whatnot.

Neither China nor Japan have the ability to effectively project any serious military power beyond their border. How exactly would China land any troops when Japan has the more modern navy and air force. The only advantage China has is numbers and that is meaningless because they have no way to move them. Japan could get air superiority but they wouldn't have any way to hold a beachhead.

The tanks wouldn't even get to shore. This isn't storming the beaches of Normandy in WW2. Since Japan will have air superiority especially over their own island an amphibious attack is all but guaranteed to fail. No air superiority, no assault by sea. Once they grind to a halt you can just plink them at leisure. All you need is some shoulder mounted missiles and you can take out the ships themselves from the shore or better yet throw down a bunch of giant metal underwater barricades which will stop the laughable amphibious tank attack cold. Tanks aren't invincible, certainly not Chinese tanks and once a tank is no longer maneuverable its nothing more than a sitting duck.

Don't let the spending fool you because that is only what Japan spends. The US subsidizes a lot of their military costs and also leases US equipment. Japan also has significantly more advance technology that Japan does. They are only restricted by their constitution in regards to their actual numbers they can deploy, they haven't stopped researching and developing military tech over the years. Ironically Japan has been resisting US pressure to modify their constitution to allow them to field a standing military instead of just a "defense force".

Then of course there is the question of who would the US side with or would they just stay on the sidelines. I have a hard time seeing anything other than the US siding with Japan. If that happens its game over. The US wouldn't even have to fire a shot as we could just stop trade and the entire Chinese economy would collapse overnight.

In 2011 a Chinese admiral or general, I forget which, witnessed war games by US and some allies. The admiral/general went home and told his superiors that China had a long way to go and they weren't even close to matching US capabilities. He was of course reprimanded until other military officers stood up for him and said the same thing. Militaries in general are not conducive to abrubt change but the Chinese military has been especially egregious in their inability to adapt and basically its entirely run but a handful of people who no one bothers to question. They seem obsessed with the numbers game and only very recently have admitted that they need to focus on unit effectiveness as well. Numbers no longer win wars anymore, its about each units kill effectiveness and China is weak in that regards.

This is all a game as China wishes to see just exactly what the U.S. will say and do....which really is pretty stupid as there are some in the Chinese Communist Regime that actually DOUBT that the U.S. would go to war over any attack on our former enemy Japan.

We would and will if it came to that and the Chinese Navy would be complete destroyed within 48 hours.

    I will say it again.

Since the United States WROTE the current Japanese Constitution which does not allow Japan to develop an Offensive Military...the United States is treaty bound to defend Japan against any attack by any nation...PERIOD!!!

You know...you might find that you might have better luck having an enjoyable debate with people if you would just concentrate on talking about the actual REALITIES and leave the attitude at the door.

Because of what I sometimes do I have extensive knowledge about U.S. Military and Economic commitments to a large number of countries including many in the Pacific and South East Asia.

For a person such as you who is lacking any real knowledge specific to such U.S. commitments and treaties to call ME naive is beyond idiotic.

    Take some very good advice.

It is ALWAYS a good idea to be cautious making such statements to people on an internet forum who you have ZERO knowledge about and even less understanding of exactly who such a person might be and what they do and what they might be capable of.

Fortunately for you I am basically a nice guy....many of the people I work with are not.

    Highlander-
You need to do a LOT more reading, and some critical thinking to determine the

credibility of websites like Infowars and Global Research. Your links only lead to

OPINION pieces. Those are only slightly worth the time it takes to read them if you

follow through to find out where the influences of those opinions began. Most of the

more discerning folks who look for truly relevant and relatively "true" news are not

    impressed with these sources.
As for your attacks on Above Alpha-
Some of my opinions about this guy are not flattering, but when he makes an assertion,

he's not mincing words, and he's not guessing.
There's a quote I read somewhere that goes something like this:
"We sleep quiet in our beds because rough men remain vigilant". He's that sort.

The inforwars article is about the Philippines, not Japan. And neither says anything about the US 'borrowing all pensions from Japan.

And it's never been tested against an actual ship, much less against something which would simulate the capabilities of a full Battle Group.
