I have heard several things Gov. Bush has said when a microphone is pushed in his face and he sounds like a strong candidate. I wonder if more Republicans here would be supporting him based on his political profile if his name was not Bush?

He is a very strong candidate but the reason most of us conservatives are having a problem with him is because he is too moderate, like Romney was. Honestly, if the democrats actually wanted a president they had a good chance of working with than Bush should be their first pick.

The fact that he has the name Bush is completely irrelevant to anything.

He's my second choice. I would prefer Rubio, primarily because Rubio is a much more inspirational speaker than Jeb. That said, I thought Jeb was a pretty good governor here in Florida. Much better than his successors--Charlie Crist and Rick Scott.

On paper, he's not too bad of a candidate, but I fear he'd be yet another establishment neo-con. He doesn't inspire my confidence. I don't believe he'd make any true fundamental changes... just business as usual.

Couldn't say. But since his foreign policy team is chock full of former members of the Project for a New American Century, he won't be getting my support.

Thank you all for thoughtful answers. I just hear a lot of the Bush bashing and wonder when I hear him speak I get a sense that he would be formidible and yet people, when reporting, tend to go back to who he is related to more than how he might think for himself.

He claims he is his own man and then does this...

Just the thought of another Bush presidency is nauseating.

Bush is rational, so he stands out among the repub field, but if you really look at his record, he's quite a rigid ideologue on several right-wing issues.
He was an original member of the neocon pack that concocted the PNAC and his actions as governor were callous when it came to social issues.
He is not a rino and he is not a moderate like Romney. It's just that the lunatic right has no sense of perspective.
And he lacks the folksy charm of his brother, which makes the rubes nervous. Jeb is an intellectual ideologue.

Surrounding himself with advisors who have been there is a wise thing to do.

Remember, they have experience but the ultimate decision will be Bush's.

We saw the horrible consequences of what happens when people like Obama surround themselves with people who do not have the first idea about what foreign policy entails.

I actually agree with you on something! That said, the thought of another Clinton presidency is nauseating as well.

I never supported Hillary, but I would still prefer her over a Bushie.

He's a Catholic, pro life and all that, and you guys used to really hate him because of the Terri Schiavo situation. That's an issue that you guys will be bringing up over and over if Jeb gets anywhere.

He was my governor, and was a pretty good one, but as President, he would basically be George Bush again. Domestically a "compassionate conservative" and for foreign policy....frankly I don't know. In fact, I don't think he really cares about foreign policy that much. He's only passionate about one thing, illegal immigrants, and not even all illegal immigrants, just Hispanic ones. A person can win the the Republican nomination and be pro amnesty, but I'm not sure you can win the Republican nomination if amnesty is the only issue you really care about and the only thing you really care about accomplishing as President. That's kind of a turn off.

He is even bigger on education than immigration, that is his baby.

I would agree that he will be a more domestic president instead of a foreign policy president.

As President, you don't get to make that choice, as the hapless Obama has found out to his sorrow.

I don't think the people have had much say in who runs in a long time. Maybe after the top saw how many people didn't vote when it came to Romney vs Obama, that the new idea is to put up the lamest vs each other. Jeb vs Hilary should make most with a brain puke on themselves.

I could totally see it happening.

But the president decides what issues to steer the national debate to.

He is like the captain of a ship.

Bush and Christie have the worst favorability ratings of any Republican candidates.

Its still too early to consider those ratings as anything of value however.

It really isn't. I encourage you to fiddle around with this. I don't generally find Huffington Post to be very reliable or unbiased, but here they've created a very useful tool which escapes that bias problem.

Give me Bush vs Clinton and i'll take the under in Vegas for turn out. Near as I can tell neither of them stands for much beyond a mentality that screams "It's my turn now dammit. Both are old news in and election cycle that is increasingly demanding change, a change that neither of them really espouse.

Not when those advisors proved themselves by starting an unnecessary war in the wrong country and losing it.

You don't give fools like that another bite of the apple.

Nice try but Joe Scarborough already pulled that Rabbit out of the hat trick.
Most Republicans do no favor Jeb.The latest Fox poll asking that question
was probably scripted and run by some outfit Karl Rove paid off.Rove is
    desperate to Run another Bush.
Rove has a history now of intentionally slandering and harming Tea Party
candidates. His approach Lost the possible takeover of the Senate in 2012.
The base wised-up and told Rove to take a hike for the 2014 elections.
I see where in that skewed Fox poll,Rand Paul is dead last in favorability.
I guess that explains why Rand Paul won the CPAC Straw poll in 2015.
    For the 3rd Straight year.
The reason this thread is being started is to get Republicans to like Jeb Bush.
Like the way the turncoat former GOP Congressman,Joe Scarborough wasted
little time after last years 2014 November results making the case FIRST for
a Jeb run.Because MSNBC would love nothing more than a Jeb nominee
That way all they have to do is pull some stunt like Bridgegate or the Romney
47% stunt { c/o of David Corn at Mother Jones }.
Democrats and MSNBC will tell Conservatives who to run.
If they say Jeb,then even Pliny the Younger should raise an eyebrow
    Panegyricus
" No one has ever deceived the whole world, nor has the whole world
    ever deceived any man ."
