This may shock you but I, unlike most christians, have read the entire book cover to cover so I'm well aware of whats in the book.

In fact reading the entire thing was the most influential activity I engaged in in becoming what would be termed an agnostic.

You see I have no problem with the idea of a creator... just not one that orders Jewish soldiers to smash little babies heads on the rocks as their mothers watch on in horror expecting to be next.

No the Idea of worshiping a god such as this turns my stomach and burning in hell for all eternity would be preferable to me personally.

 

Having read & studied for over 30 yrs, seeing the frailty of the men who wrote, and discerning the spiritual messages within as they were 'inspired', what you said could be said of many 'religious scholars' who read what scripture calls "the dead letter" but missed out on the 'spiritual messages within'..cover-to-cover, not cherry picking a verse or 2....but at least you cant complain total ignorance as an excuse, just being carnally minded and not spiritually discerning to get any 'truth' out of at least the NT words of Jesus Christ.

 

I discerned the truth of the book.

God is jealous, wrathful, vengeful, and loves war. This god also enjoys commanding Jewish soldiers to kill animals, men, children, women and even "the fruit of their womb" making him the first abortionist.

So for me regardless of what spiritual meaning I may or may not discern from the book... it still is not enough to compel me to endorse the smashing of little babies on rocks!

 

One wont find anywhere on this site or forum where I said that the book called the Bible is 'inerrant!' Written by many mortal men and also canonized by men..but one could say that taken cover-to-cover, the will of God is revealed within among those who claimed to be inspired..aka, seeking the truth & grace of God.

And as 'men' we have the opportunity to use as a 'guideline' to follow that will...and given the 'gift of Righteousness,' not self but earned by a man on a cross, can be "in right-standing' with the Creator.

Hopefully, being familiar with the 'truths' within the total of scripture (not dwelling on Bronze Age civilizations & their cultures) you may be open, esp as things 'march on' to the end as prophesied..Good 'luck"

BTW, I'm not on here just to put ppl down, but to give them a wake up 'slap in the face'... also, btw, not much different than what Jesus often did with his carnally-minded disciples..

 

Insinuating I am incapable of discerning deeper meanings in written texts in my opinion only serves to justify for you the belief in a god who as I pointed out is a little off his rocker.

You have no possible way of knowing how I interpret the meanings in books I've read. This is simply your claim that your way of reading it is OK while mine is fraught with a clear paved path to perdition.

Twist it any way you like and blame me for the perceived misinterpretation that didn't lead me to the same conclusion concerning this book as you.

This in no way garners me any inclination whatsoever to endorse the killing of babies.

I'll be happy to tell it I prefer eternity in hell as opposed to the self psychological torment I would be forced to endure for eternity praising a known baby killer!

So back to the point of this thread... it's been over 2000 years I don't for one minuet have any reason whatsoever to believe he's ever coming back!

 

AGAIN! Give your Bronze Age excuses (dont see baby killing in the NT but by Herod) and ignore the Beatitudes (words of Christ) and justify your 'spiritual position' in this life...no 'man' can change your hardened heart...sounds like you'll need more than 'luck' to move you forward!

There's nothing to pretend. Much of religion is pretend. Christianity isn't pretend.

relationship with him. Nobody hides the fact that he was a Jew. In fact it's an important part of
