"Ecuador is studying and analyzing the request," Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino told reporters in Quito.

I said years ago, if I was Assange I'd have gotten well away from Europe and sought asylum in Pyongyang...

It would also be hard to run a whistleblowing internet site from a city not particularly known for its internet connectivity.

Quito is too close to America...
Internet activity from DPRK is most restricted by America, and you can't pretend that Julian can use the Internet freely in America...
It's too funny seeing Americans lecture North Korea about Internet freedom in a topic about Julian Assange...

It's a lot more funny seeing an Australian post Soviet apologism while expressing admiration for North Korea.

He should come back to Australia where the Federal Police told the Australian Government that he has broken no Australian laws after the Federal Government told the media that he has.

America would find some excuse to extradite him from here... In Ecuador he can take citizenship and then there's no way they can extradite him...
I still think North Korea would be safer tho...

It is sad when one must go on the run to find their own right to free speech

Don't know what we could do... If USA wanted to extradite him from here he'd be in same plight as in Britain...

And while we're on the topic of internet firewalls, wasn't it Australia that came very close to implementing a rather broad one just a few years ago? Wasn't it your government that had a blacklist that, while not enforced, it still was prosecutable to reveal the sites on the list? A few people got fined for doing that.

I've got no problem with an Internet firewall that permanently blocks child pornography sites and similar... That's nothing to do with free speech and only Americans think it is...
Considering your previous record all thru the 20th century it's amazing that Americans still persist in the delusion you have anything like free speech...

You know that the firewall would have blocked a lot more than that, but you're free to be coy.

Because most foreigners don't. I can respectfully disagree with more balanced ones here. I even agree with plenty of them.

Do you think that 1 million Iraqis killed and 1 million afghanis killed is nothing to do with YOUR human rights record, ameritard..? America abuses human rights all around the world...
Not to mention three Australians detained for extended periods without charge, tortured and then released without any charges...
Or killing how many millions in Vietnam or Korea..? American human rights go well beyond your borders...

    Europe human rights record:

Over 100 million dead in just the last 100 years (WWII) - more than every war the US has ever been in combined.

Those numbers of dead Iraqis and Afgans were inflated - more were killed by their own govts than America has ever killed. Admit it, you're country is a sh*thole, you're envious of the greatest country in history - suck it up and deal with it. :p

Well, that's an easy way to define things from the perspective of a smaller country.

For any major power in the world, there's more of a possibility of entering wars on a greater scale.

For example, you could argue that the human rights record of North Korea is better than England's, since England has existed far longer and been involved in far more wars.

You could argue that their human rights record is even better than Australia's when figuring in how many Aborigines were killed by Australian settlers.

I believe he is on the run to avoid being tried for rape and assault, not free speech issues.

I've spent time in both Toronto and Dublin, and most people in both of those cities don't strike me as significantly hateful of Americans. I doubt most Australians are either.
