I think the Sweden rape case is pretty ridiculous if it's any consolation. Inadvertently, Sweden is finding out that it needs to reform its rape laws, since accusing someone of rape is absurdly easy there.
That well could be, but he is not being accused by Sweden of any free speech issues which seemed to be the mistaken premise of this thread.
If he's extradited to Sweden, it's very likely that they'll hand him over to the US where he'll face much worse than rape charges.
Lol... How would it have blocked more than that..? I listened to Greg Combet explain it all and how it worked... You listened to whoever... America has blocked political dissident opinion on the web, and your firewall of American ignorance began long before there even was an Internet... Tell me which world famous American singer died in relative poverty after being blocked from performing in the Land of Free Speech and denied a passport so he couldn't travel overseas to perform..? Don't know..? That'd be because you're amerignorant...
i dont understand why the pro assange people are so upset. did you think his actions would be without consequences? julian assange will have to face justice in sweden one day, there is no way around it. does he think he can't be touched in a south american nation? thats a bit rich. thats the CIA playground
Admit it, you're country is a sh*thole, you're envious of the greatest country in history - suck it up and deal with it. [/QUOTE] Why is it that some Americans can't handle criticism of their nation's foreign policy without getting all childish and making ill-informed comments like this one? I've seen it a lot. Learn to handle international opinion, and accept that it's not always on your side.
A one-track-mind agenda..? Does that mean I stay on topic..? Does that mean that you can't debate the facts so you've got to "play the man"..? Oh you found a bit of web slander posted about me..? That's funny, because if I Goggle my screen name then less than half the entries that come up are about me, and most of them are blind links...
Exactly. Let him settle down in Quito. That way, if we so chose, we can reach out and snuff him out whenever we chose without any international repercussions.
Personally I think Assange is just a bit of a dickhead. Publishing leaked documents is hardly revolutionary. Wikileaks had potential, but it was quickly destroyed by Assange's awful management. I would not be at all surprised if he had raped these women (according to Swedish law). I think it's hilarious that he's trying to skip bail, when it was his supporters that put up the money for him. Of course governments don't like him, governments don't like unfavourable press in general. Doesn't mean they're going to bloody lock them all up. Assange really isn't that special, he's obviously not worth the effort even if they did want to prosecute him for something they don't have any legal grounds for.
Human rights is highly debatable, but free speech??? So many of the people at this forum live in alternate versions of reality where Reagan is great, or where Stalin is great, or where North Korea is just misunderstood, etc!! I just don't get it. In case you aren't aware, NK and the US aren't the only options. America is a deeply flawed nation, but if the alternative is North Korea I will take America 1 billion times out of 1 billion. Thankfully though, those aren't the only options!! PS. If he is going to choose an anti-American country with socialist ties, at least let it be Cuba which has beaches and beautiful women. Or Iran even, which has thousands of years of culture and a vibrant populace, even if their government is an oppressive theocracy. I mean honestly, pretty much anything would be better than NK!!
North Korea or American domination are the only options for North Koreans... It's their choice, not yours to make... That said I don't recall North Korea deliberately shutting down the American Internet... North Koreans know who divided Korea, do you..?
British Metropolitan Police have said that Julian will be arrested for breach of bail as soon as he steps out of the car when he leaves the embassy... Is this legal..? As I understand it if he is granted asylum he is entitled to diplomatic escort from the embassy onto a plane for Ecuador... Does Britain forget what asylum means so soon after Chen Guangcheng was given asylum to America..?
He doesn't have diplomatic immunity therefore he's subject to arrest. It would appear that Julien tripped on his own dick this time.
Diplomatic immunity is easily arranged- should the Ecuadorians so choose. Political asylum is a first step.
Why do I have to "choose an anti-American country"..? It's not an either/or... At this point in history the USA poses the same threat to human life and liberty as did nazi Germany or imperial Japan... I don't choose for north Koreans or for Iran or Syria... Why do Americans think they can make those choices and call it democracy..?
If someone is granted asylum at an embassy, any embassy, they are entitled to diplomatic immunity for the journey to the host country... Just like Chen Guangcheng was...
Actually British settlers. In reality, Australians and Australia didn't technically exist before federation in 1901.
No what is amazing is that you people actually think you are morally and intellectually superior to the United States and see us as the bad guys.
