In the Dark Ages, few people could read or write. Their "Physics" was superstition, their "Chemistry" was witchcraft, and their medicine was no more than voodoo. The known "science" of the time was generally guarded and stored in monasteries as wars raged outside their gates. The Renaissance Period brought "science" back into the light of day. Science blossomed and grew until today we have aircraft, heart transplants, and air conditioning. But we are entering a new Dark Ages. Everyone has an iPhone but few can explain how those magic pictures fly through air and land on your screen. Most folks use a microwave oven every day but have no idea how it works. Lots of pet owners use toy lasers to play with their furry friends, but can't explain how that light is made, as opposed to a lightbulb. We are entering a new Dark Age. We already are steadfasly convinced of our position (whatever it is) on COVID, but its because of what Dr Fauci tells us to believe, not because we have read any documentation. Worse yet, we believe the truth of "science" is whatever our President says it is. We are entering a new Dark Age.

Those in the "dark ages" believed in or used features available to them without having understanding of them. They bled people to cure them. They thought the reason for the heart was as a house for the "soul". They thought eclipses were supernatural omens, usually of disaster. Etc. The fact is that by now human understanding has exceeded the ability for any single individual to know the details, the science, behind all the stuff they use. We CAN NOT be experts in everything. I don't see that as a "dark age" AT ALL. That's an amazing feat of human ingenuity! But, it does mean that we have NO CHOICE but to rely on people who have had the time, energy, education, opportunity, etc., to understand the specific areas they focus on. The challenge of our age is one of learning to differentiate between those who are experts, whose advice we should follow, who have done the work to really understand, and the charlatans. And, that is helped by taking part in as much education as possible. The more uneducated we remain, the worse decisions we will make. That's true in another way, too. Our economy is moving toward automation, innovation, clean energy, high tech, advanced medicine, etc. The good jobs are moving away from manufacturing (which every country in the world can do) and toward these new sectors. Those who will get these new jobs are those who have the education they require - whether they are Americans, Chinese, or live in any other country. Those who fail at education WILL lose.
That's a very factual explanation of how we are becoming a nation of uneducated workers who work for beans and educated elites who exploit them for their mansions and personal aircraft. (Can you spell F-A-U-C-I?)

But when on Wednesday Fauci is a fan of boosters and the next says they are unnecessary, when masks are "essential" one day and "unnecessary" the next... when China Virus "mandates" are Draconian in some states and nonexistent in others... and seem to unrelated to the number of China Virus deaths... everything to do with COVID has become political, not scientific.

As I read what he says, that comment was directed at the omicron variant specifically - that at this point it appears we do not need a new vaccine for this variant. That does NOT conflict with his comments on the need for boosters for those who have been vaccinated 6 months or longer ago, and vacination for those not vaccinated. He has represented medical science in the determination that this is still the most effective approach to omicron. Beyond that, medical science IS GOING TO CHANGE ITS RECOMMENDATIONS!!! The reason is obvious - progress!! Scientists are not sitting on their asses watching the world go by. They are constantly improving medical science in ways that SHOULD impact policy. Not only that, but diseases (bacterial, fungal, viral) are all evolving to avoid the remedies we have. So, changes in what we do MUST be expected. I see NO EVIDENCE that our medical science is being influenced by politics. What IS being influenced is policy. But, medical science is only one contributor to policy.

His JOB is to inform the president. It is NOT his job to declare a national emergency. For him to do that would be a huge overstep.
