I think America has done ok. Trump's "Warp Speed" program got the vaccine out fast enough that Biden was vaxxed before he took office. While blue states remain shivering in fear, wearing mandatory masks, closing businesses, schools, etc... we're doing fine here. Schools all open, businesses thriving...

We're in the era of p hacking. Science is a pursuit of knowledge. There is superstition and religious beliefs that masquerade as science I don't think this is anything new it's always been a thing. It's just that there's so much produced that most people can look at a whole bunch of things that curated for them by people who manipulate them and they don't see anything that contradicts it. And if anybody tries to show them because the stuff they Cherry picked for that was Cherry picked for them a firms their beliefs they won't accept it. People of researched this phenomenon it's called the dunning Kruger effect.

You're making a serious charge here. You need to identify that charge a lot more carefully, as painting all science or all medical science in that way is NOT legitimate. There is no doubt that there IS schlock out there. For example, there is homeopathy - an entire field of medical garbage that is doing real damage to the health of America.

This is one of those 'blink it and you'll miss' occasions where he is correct. Pretty much the only time on this thread & rare enough enywhere else. America has the highest official death toll and is no doubt one of the highest in the world, but India has everyone beaten. Recording of COVID deaths there at the height of the pandemic was limted. While deaths were generally recorded, causes were not able to be nailed down as easily for a number of reasons. There are credible studies suggesting rates of COVID infection were maybe 20x higher than official figures or more. Monitoring of excess deaths suggests 4-5 million is the most likely death toll. Even if you don't believe that, its not a stretch to believe the real toll is double or triple the official figure, which puts India in the lead. I would also not be shocked if Brazil's actual death toll is ahead of America's, though I don't claim any evidence there. Just a hunch. America doesn't need to have the highest death toll for it to be clear that its response was sub-par.
Agreed - however as far as the offical death toll goes America still holds the official record. There are possibilities that other third world countries may also have beaten America - thinking here of Indonesia and even South Africa but there is no official data on this only speculation
Sth Africa would surprise me, Indonesia not so much. Also wouldn't count out Bangladesh & Pakistan. All that said, it isn't fair or intellectually honest to claim America has the 'highest death toll' simply because a bunch of poor countries lack the resources to count effectively. It also gives our little friend yet another diversion, and one where he is right. I would choose to fight on better ground if I were inclined to take the time to fight.
