Crimea is beginning to look like Putin's Dunkirk, but without the prospect of a "miracle" at the end for Russia.

Ukrainian Troops May Be Massing For Their Fourth ... - Forbes
    https://www.forbes.com › sites › davidaxe › 2022/12/12

1 day ago — If that's true, it could be a sign that Ukraine's fourth counteroffensive might be imminent, despite the onset of winter.

". . . Artillery-on-artillery “counterbattery” battles aren’t uncommon as Russia’s wider war on Ukraine grinds into its 10th month.

What’s special about the Dec. 9 artillery duel is what reportedly instigated it. According to Russian sources, the Ukrainian army is massing mechanized forces around Hulyaipole.

If that’s true, it could be a sign that Ukraine’s fourth counteroffensive might be imminent, despite the onset of winter. This widely-anticipated attack—the Zaporizhzhia left hook—would aim to liberate much of southern Ukraine and push Ukrainian troops all the way to the narrow neck of land connecting mainland Ukraine to the Crimean Peninsula, which Russian forces seized in 2014. . . . "

Was it a collective defense agreement? That was the question I asked.

So by stating that you claimed that the Monroe Doctrine was a collective defense agreement I'm making your point?

    Heh, that's funny!

You will not find the word "agreement" in any post of mine. Your serial falsehoods have damaged your argument beyond repair.
    You lost.

It was never an agreement. Only you have used that word.

You did use the term "collective defense."

You were wrong. And I think that the fact that you had no choice but resort to posting a cowboy image over and over is proof that you never had an argument. You made a dumb statement and could have just let it go but for some weird reason decided to double down on it.

I'll say it again. The Monroe Doctrine has nothing to do with "collective defense." The fact that you are repeating that incessently makes me suspect that you are a Russian bot, trying to discredit real American patriots like myself.

    Go back to Moscow!

Tsk tsk. You're swinging a bit wildly. The Monroe Doctrine does indeed embody collective defense. That's why South American leaders welcomed it, as quoted.
I'm not trying to discredit you; you're doing a fine job of that yourself.
As for the "cowboy image," it's from a famous scene in The Magnificent Seven. If you're not familiar with it, you really should take a look at the specific scene. There's a message for you.
    You lost.

I do believe so. My recollection is it was a unilateral policy established by the US. Fifty something years since I pre-requisite courses in college. Have to look it up.

Here does !! “ The Monroe Doctrine, in asserting unilateral U.S. protection over the entire Western Hemisphere, was a foreign policy that could not have been sustained militarily in 1823. Monroe and Adams were well aware of the need for the British fleet to deter potential aggressors in Latin America”.
So my memory was sort of good. Not bad for a business administration major.

    Ukraine Conflict Updates
Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, December 13

Click here to read the full report.
    Key Takeaways

    • Belarusian forces remain unlikely to attack Ukraine despite a snap Belarusian military readiness check on December 13.
    • Ukrainian officials continue to assess that Belarus is unlikely to attack Ukraine as of December 13.
    • Senior Israeli officials stated that Iran seeks to limit the range of missiles it plans to provide to Russia in order to avoid triggering UN "snapback" sanctions.
    • Ukrainian intelligence reported that Russian forces are striking Ukraine with missiles that Ukraine transferred to Russia in the 1990s as part of an international agreement by which Russia recognized Crimea and all of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts as part of Ukraine and committed not to threaten or attack Ukraine.
    • US officials stated on December 13 that the Pentagon is finalizing plans to send Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine.
    • Russia continues to use concepts of terrorism as a legal framework for domestic repression.
    • Russian forces conducted limited counterattacks near Svatove and Kreminna.
    • Russian forces made marginal advances within Bakhmut and continued ground assaults near Avdiivka and Vuhledar.
    • Russian forces may be withdrawing from certain areas south of the Dnipro River as they continue fortifying rear positions in occupied Kherson Oblast.
    • Likely Ukrainian actors downed a bridge in Melitopol, Zaporizhia Oblast amid increased reports of Ukrainian strikes against Russian military assets near Melitopol within the past few days.
    • The Wagner Group is continuing efforts to use recruits from Russian prisoners to generate combat power. . . .
Likely Ukrainian actors downed a bridge in Melitopol, Zaporizhia Oblast amid increased reports of Ukrainian strikes against Russian military assets near Melitopol within the past few days. Images from December 13 show significant damage and fallen spans of the M14/E58 bridge across the Molochna River in Melitopol (roughly 100km behind the front lines), and Russian occupation officials claimed that Ukrainian "saboteurs" detonated 15-20kg of explosives to down the bridge overnight.[45] Zaporizhia Oblast occupation officials claimed that Russian authorities will erect a temporary bypass bridge within two weeks and publicized alternate routes for ground transportation.[46] Russian officials claimed that the bridge attack did not affect Russian logistics routes between Melitopol and Crimea, but some milbloggers claimed otherwise and criticized occupation officials for not guarding the bridge.[47] The Ukrainian General Staff reported on December 13 that Ukrainian strikes destroyed the command post of the Russian 58th Combined Arms Army in Melitopol, and further strikes against Enerhodar, Tokmak, and Hulyaipole cumulatively wounded 150 personnel and destroyed three artillery installations and 10 pieces of equipment.[48] A Russian milblogger noted that ongoing Ukrainian strikes against rear areas in Zaporizhia Oblast resemble the Ukrainian strategy in advance of the Kherson counteroffensive, and cautioned Russian forces to learn from military failures in Kherson Oblast.[49] . . . .

The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces have intensified forced mobilization in occupied territories. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces in Donetsk Oblast have intensified forced mobilization in an effort to replenish losses in the Russian 1st Army Corps (forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic).[63] The report stated that Russian forces in Horlivka, Donetsk are subjecting residents to forced conscriptions, especially residents with previous armored unit experience.[64] . . .

The video from Hindustan Times (neutral publication from India, somewhat less propaganda driven) gives a quick factual summary of today's action in the war, including on the ground.

First I disagree with your source.

Second, that never happened. President Monroe never promised any such thing. I'm not sure why this inaccuracy seems so important to you guys. It's not exactly the hill I expected you to die on but for some reason a fake Monroe Doctrine myth as some sort of collective defense seems very important to several people.

Unilateral means one. The US is alone in enforcing the Monroe doctrine. If you are interpreting that it is a collective defense I disagree.

The argument was about collective defense.

Even if it was about unilateral defense, you're still wrong. Monroe never promised that.

You know that the US was the only country with the will, the means and the policy to enforce the Monroe Doctrine. Does not sound collective to me. This is like Panama saying to us “go Grinkos we are right behind you”. They mean way behind you. So let us agree to disagree. You are not going to convince me nor will I going to convince.

As has been repeatedly demonstrated here, your conclusion is faulty. The South Americans (as quoted) certainly understood it as collective defense.
    You lost.

    Ukraine Conflict Updates
Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, December 14

Click here to read the full report.
    Key Takeaways

    • Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly postponed his annual address to the Russian Federal Assembly, indicating that the Kremlin is not confident that it can continue to shape the Russian information space.
    • Ukrainian officials are forecasting that Russian forces may attempt to launch a large-scale offensive at the beginning of 2023.
    • Ukrainian air defenses shot down all drones that Russian forces launched in attacks on December 14.
    • Ukrainian sources reported that 64 POWs returned to Ukrainian-held territory.
    • The Kremlin will likely intensify information operations aimed at presenting the Ukrainian government as oppressing religious liberties and freedom of the press.
    • Ukrainian forces continued counteroffensive operations and Russian forces conducted counterattacks in the Svatove and Kreminna areas.
    • Russian forces continued offensive operations in the Bakhmut and Avdiivka areas.
    • Russian forces continued defensive operations south of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast.
    • Kremlin officials admitted to receiving complaints about mobilization despite mobilization’s "de facto end."
    • Ukrainian partisans continue to aid Ukrainian forces in identifying valuable Russian targets. . . . .
Ukrainian forces continued to strike Russian rear areas in Kherson and Zaporizhia oblasts. Residents and Ukrainian sources reported that Ukrainian troops struck recreation centers where Russian soldiers lived in Skadovsk and Lazurne (both south of the Dnipro River) on the night of December 13 and morning of December 14.[62] The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Ukrainian strikes hit Russian concentration areas throughout Zaporizhia Oblast between December 12 and 14.[63] . . .

The Kremlin continues to rely on financial incentives to lure men into participating in the war in Ukraine. Crimean Occupation Head Sergey Aksyonov announced on December 14 that the occupation State Council of Crimea adopted a law that provides a free plot of land in Crimea to participants of the "special military operation."[79] Aksyonov specified that the occupation administration will distribute land to individuals that had a Crimean permanent residency as of February 24, 2022.[80] . . . .

Hotel burns after locals report explosions in Russian-occupied Kherson

From CNN's Tim Lister, Denis Lapin and Gianluca Mezzofiore

There's been an explosion and extensive fire at a building that used to be a hotel in Russian-occupied Kherson.

CNN has geolocated images and video showing the heavily damaged Salamar Hotel in the village of Zaliznyi Port in Skadovsk district.

Unofficial Ukrainian media reported the Russian security service FSB was based at the hotel. Local accounts described a series of explosions in the district.

Neither local Russian-appointed officials nor the Ukrainian military have commented on the reports. CNN has not independently verified the claim that FSB was stationed at the hotel.

More context: Skadovsk is located on the Black Sea coast and part of the broader Kherson region, which is not entirely controlled by either side in the conflict.

Russian officials have moved command posts away from the city of Kherson and toward Crimea since the Ukrainians liberated the west bank of the Dnipro River and took control of the city.

Earlier this week, there was an assassination attempt against a Russian-appointed official in Skadovsk, according to pro-Russian authorities in the area.

I dunno it sounds like you are coming around to my POV if you agree that the Monroe Doctrine does "not sound collective to me."

Not sure what you wanted to argue about in the first place.
