"North Korea's Supreme Leader/dictator Kim Jong-un has reportedly died, or is on his death bed with no hope for recuperation -- according to media outlets in China and Japan." ... "President Trump has downplayed the reports and has refused to elaborate -- but it looks like KJU's sister, Kim Yo-jong, might be getting set up to possibly replace him as Supreme Leader ... reports say she was recently re-promoted to a prominent position of power there" https://www.tmz.com/2020/04/25/north-korea-dictator-kim-jong-un-dead-dies-heart-surgery-reports/ I don't know if these are just rumors. I'm pretty sure if Trump knows he won't tell us "mere mortals". Does anybody know anything about Kim Yo-Jong? Is she more of a moderate, or just as ruthless are her brother? One thing is for sure: this is likely to be the death that occurs this year that Trump will lament the most.
We went through this the last time a Jong died. It's not the puppet, but the military faction in North Korea that rules. It's more of a junta state than anything. However, she does have the opportunity(if in fact she has sway as a member of the Jong clan.) to change the state of North Korea, and their government. And if she is open to this, we might possibly have to offer her military protection(See: Bhuta, the tragically assassinated PM of Pakistan in the 90's.) Because we cannot presume the totalitarian NK military to fully back the new leader of the country if she opts for a democratic or even semi-democratic approach(and yes, we should applaud a semi-democratic approach as well. That would be a HUGE leap forward for them. We're not trying to recreate the US in NK, just to defuse a military war State)
Not to mention that North Koreans are so used to living in a dictatorship that it might prove to be quite a task to convince the people to try any sort of Democracy for a change.
From what I understand, she has no experience as a leader or an administrator, has never had aspirations to power, and doesn't have any 'presence' at all in NK's political structure. It would be like one of Obama's daughters taking power in the US. If she can hold power, I like to think she would make a lot of changes for the better, effectively being an establishment outsider. Unfortunately, I think its more likely she'll just be killed by one of Lil Kim's Generals when they start fighting over the throne.
One thing I just thought about is that this could be a setup to convince the brainwashed population of North Korea that their leader overcame death itself. So, he's divinity.
That makes sense.... I think she would need to seek protection. From us (as @AmericanNationalist said) or the Chinese. The Chinese, seem to be more likely. But she would be a fabulous ally. We should actively seek that.
North Korea is Male-centric when it comes to leadership. There would reportedly be significant resistance to her assumption of power. When was the last time NK had a female leader? The important play to watch here is China's. China has six very good reasons to intervene. 1). Nukes 2). Possibility of a non-Communist-friendly insertion of influence. 3). Millions fleeing NK into China 4). Gaining influence in NK fits nicely into their One Road, One Path global strategy 5). Gaining a regional addition to their already large military force of nearly 1,000,000 soldiers would make them a formidable military global force 6). North Korea has always been a geopolitical thorn in China's side
It's unlikely since North Korean culture doesn't see women as Supreme Leadership material. At least that's what I've read from sources familiar with Korean culture and politics Some kind of power struggle within the family and military leadership might erupt. It could get brutal for a while if it turns out he did die. I generally feel it might be a good thing if she did become leader.
