If the US pulled out you could guarantee border crossing and mingling, no doubt about it.

Taking the high ground means nothing to North Korea. Their only goal is to have the entire peninsula. What people think of them is immaterial.
We had made no progress. Not even a little. I'm glad he failed to take the moral high ground as you believe. It isn't how to deal with a country like North Korea. We have two choices. Either we can accept them as a nuclear power or we can go to war with them. There aren't any other options.
We will be the same with them as we have always been.
    See my two options above.

"We had made no progress. Not even a little."

Precisely. Every administration utterly failed and the state dept. utterly failed for 70 years.

Man that Kim Jong-Un missed an opportunity, now if that was me and I was Kim Jong-Un... ;)

    I'd be all like
"Yeah I was dead but now I'm not fore I have risen from the grave and now I am even more divine."
and expect the people to be all

    about me
(Or whatever the Korean is for all of that).

And the people probably would have bought it too.

You're not paying attention. Of course it means nothing to North Korea! It means something to other countries who would support our efforts to isolate the NK economy unless they stop the criminal activities.

A lot! We had reduced Chinese imports from N. Korea to the minimum. China was the only country that imported from NK, and we had great leverage to get other countries to impose sanctions because of this. It was like a "trade war".... except that so many countries participated in it that China had nobody to retaliate against.

That might be true now. It wasn't true before Trump

North Korean has been developing nukes since Clinton was in office, how has that leverage worked out so far?

Who cares? Let them kill each other if they want. And we can sell weapons to both sides while they do it.

I appreciate the response but I don't agree with any of it. Showing other countries that we are weak has no positive impact on NK. The two options I mentioned have been the only two options since the Korean war. Trump tried to affect things but it was guaranteed to fail. NK has never given an inch. I recommend ignoring them completely. I served in the Army in Korea and I can tell that my personal opinion is that it is a huge waste of time and money to be there. We are accomplishing nothing there. The entire mission is a failure.

Very well, thank you. So much so that they stopped developing nukes when Clinton was President. But then Bush came along. However, Bush didn't mess it up as bad as Trump did.

FYI @Golem so much for "It took me a long time to research the validity of my arguments, and I suggest you do the same. Please refrain from responding if the only argument you can come up with is a Conspiracy Theory."

Got anymore conspiracy theories for us?

Of course. But when we showed him we were strong (i.e., not Trump) we were making progress.

    I agree.

The strategy wasn't predicated on NK giving an inch. It was on China stopping their support for them.

Nonsense! We can't ignore a nuclear power throwing missiles at the countries we protect. We don't need the whole Asian continent developing nukes. Nuclear was would be almost a certainty.

i don't expect right wingers to read what they respond to. But let's see if putting it large letters will help.

Now.... you can retract your post. Or disappear from the thread. Makes no difference to me... But I find it laughable that you thought that you would be the one to prove my sig inaccurate. When much much more experienced posters have tired and failed.

    Nice history revisionism.
North Korea never froze its nuclear weapons program.
6 party talks broke down in 2009, guess who was president then?
Like I said, there was never any leverage on North Korea.

    try harder next time.

1994 N Korea ended it's plutonium enrichment program, and made no progress in the area of nuclear weapons until 2002. There was much grunting, and threats by NK to restart the nuclear program and withdraw from the agreement. And plenty of quarrel about their missile program. And many rumors, but there is no evidence that they made any progress on nukes. In fact, if they had been working in a nuclear program in the 90s, they would have likely had nukes way before they actually did.

Exactly! Do you know what the word "reportedly" means?

Or are you denying that that was reported? Which is it? If it's the latter, let's hear your case. Otherwise you should retract. But it's not mandatory. Only if you wish us to consider you a serious poster in the future. By which I mean that, at least as far as I'm concerned, I cannot consider somebody who is not at least minimally concerned with the veracity of what they post, serious.

My sig doesn't say that I'm always right. It only says that I do research. If my research is wrong, like any serious poster does, I acknowledge and correct my mistakes. Do you?

We may think we were making progress but we weren't. The North Koreans are masters at delay.

No different than trying to get NK to give an inch.

By ignoring, I mean withdrawing from the peninsula. We haven't done any good there since the Korean war. The South Koreans have a competent military. Ignoring them doesn't mean they will nuke anybody. The North Koreans like our involvement because they view us a potential source of money. China is smart. They aren't interested in being the planetary police force.

    The Kim Jong-Undead

I'd be damned if I'm retracting that.

Every time there was a Democrat in the WH, we made progress... As soon as a Republican took over, they erased what we were slowly accomplishing. But nobody like Trump!

The rest is nonsense. What military they have is irrelevant. SK would have to develop nukes themselves. As would all nations in the region. And the probabilities of one of them detonating one would increase exponentially.
