Did they own the books they burnt, or did they have the permission of the owner to burn them? That is the legal question to be answered. I don't like it. Its provocative, divisive, and very offensive and I think probably counterproductive, but they are the strategists of their own protest.

I linked where multiple bookstore have been torched.

Read the linked articles in my posts, some fairly unique manuscripts were lost.

What's the difference between current BLM / Antifascist protesters and al-Qaida in Mali or Timbuktu in 2012 where they burned libraries and thousands of unique manuscripts? NOTHING!

You thought it was real, it stated it was satire in the first sentence. A smart feller should read the post first.

(Laughing). I had to go back over it twice, because I kept thinking no way this is real, they cannot be this stupid.

    Cheers

I've asked myself that question. How many people who are capable of burning bibles would actually own one or have it sitting around?

    Huh?

    Lolwut?:roflol:

You are comparing the burning of libraries and thousands of unique manuscripts to a street bonfire?

    C'mon man.

    You've got to be kidding.

They are burning books. Ownership is not a reliant point here.

“Books are the carriers of civilization. Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill. Without books, the development of civilization would have been impossible.” ~ Barbara Tuchman

With respect to the dude on fire -- (for the literate) this video shows a real opportunity for a real life reenactment of a certain firefighting scene in Gulliver's travels.

Some books deserve burning, like Mein Kampf, Bibel, Koran and so on.

And I have already said I disagree with any vandalism or damage to property. The OP is not about your post.
Like I said, feel free to start a thread, or continue to derail this dumpster fire.

If you jump in be up with the conversation.

I linked articles about the BLM protesters around nthe country burning bookstores.

    Interesting link.

    https://www.publishersweekly.com/pw...th-fire-vandalism-during-chaotic-weekend.html

Protesting government is one thing, getting violent does effect change, but targeting bookstores seems odd.

If the protesters are just book burners then the human race cannot afford their existence.

How's that for taking a position. Lol.

Oddly, I'm a libertarian, I think we have too many laws an thus too many cops. I'm in full agreement with some aspects of BLM, however if we're ok with burning books, I'm out.

Stop acting like a mod, the thread is about book burners, and book burners in Portland and the protests in general.

If your sensibilities are having problems with what your brothers and sisters in arms are actually doing, perhaps replying to my posts by denying the fact is causing some internal conflict.

You're free to stop replying in this thread about books burning in Portland.

Right but attention whoring is a unique form that requires the natural ability to produce the exact opposite type of attention one is hoping for.

The selfie taker that backs off a cliff perhaps, or the anti fascist that burns books.

Actually, this thread is about “Left wing activists burn bibles in front of Portland courthouse”.
I guess reading comprehension is the issue?

I have no idea who you are referring to, I have no qualms about siding with peaceful protest and standing against damage to private property. I guess you are having to double down with strawmen arguments

And you are free to stop trying to salvage this dumpster fire of a thread by dragging it off topic.
I don’t see that happening however.

It's a great thread. Progressive book burners don't like to be called out on fundamentals. One cannot claim the intellectual high ground whilst waving a burning book around.

The contortions attempted here this evening: pure theater.

Most of the killings done by "right wing extremists" are apolitical too. It doesn't stop these stupid misleading reports from counting them.

"Hey look, here's someone SPLC dislikes. They killed someone in a gang fight / drug dispute / bar fight / domestic violence". Next day's headline: Right-wing extremist kills someone.

When a left-wing activist kills a bunch of people, they find there's "insufficient evidence" to label them an 'extremist'. How convenient for left-wing trolls. 2019's example:

    https://www.adl.org/murder-and-extremism-2019#the-incidents

When its left-wing violence, they demand a very exacting standard that the actual act be committed for political motives. When examining right-wing violence, they don't care about the motive, any right-winger doing a bad act is good enough to count for them, regardless of the motive.

It's a biased standard by a biased organization. Only fools give it any credibility.

LOL! A ridiculous "excuse" for a silly post...a post that indicated protesters should protest in private !!! :roflol:

So they don't attract attention :roflol::roflol:

I used to be kidding when I said the left thought Fahrenheit 451 was a how-to manual for the perfect society, but it turns out I was right all along!

Almost all of them have them buried in their basement or on a top shelf they never touch. Bibles are ubiquitous. If you were religious you have one. If you are an atheist you use one as evidence in your arguments. You probably have another that your aunt gave you when you were a kid. People tend not to get rid of one, they just shove it further and further away in storage.
