Just to speculate, but with Trump expected to get about 30% in NH, and in fact in many states according to current polling, what would be the difference if it were just 3 candidates, or the current 7-8 major ones ? I would suggest that with just 3, there is no guarantee that Trump is in front. BUT, seeing as the Governor candidates may have a slight resurgence in NH, it may extend their participation, and keep Trump in front for more primaries than if it were whittled down to 3. Trump will benefit the most from a crowded field being extended for as long as possible.
