Lockdowns only reduced COVID-19 death rate by .2%, study finds: 'Lockdowns should be rejected out of hand'

    John Hopkins Study
    <--- That's a link

Lockdowns only reduced COVID-19 death rate by .2%

Lockdowns during the first COVID-19 wave in the spring of 2020 only reduced COVID-19 mortality by .2% in the U.S. and Europe, according to a Johns Hopkins University meta-analysis of several studies.

    ========================================================

We destroyed children and their education.
We destroyed young adults and their mental health pushing suicides through the roof.
We destroyed dreams as Small Businesses were crushed
    We destroyed careers with lockdowns

It was not ever worth it, yet we still have people advocating for more lockdowns.

Destroyed the economy, suicides through the roof, children dropping 20 IQ points, alcohol use on the rise, Fentanyl now the top cause of death in adults to age 55. Mental illness spiking. Families kept apart, mass evictions and poverty, record inflation, cancer deaths rising, mass layoffs, govt mandates, 20% of small businesses closed for good, AND FOR WHAT!!!!!!!!!

    FOR EFFING WHAT?

When we get to real Mathematics and real Science, we find that what Fauci and the rest of the Authoritarian despots did to the world with their mandates and lockdowns should be viewed as a crime against humanity. They will clearly be on the wrong side of History.

Hell some of us knew that in march of 2020. Before all the MSNBCNN and the DNC propagandist blamed Trump for the whole world getting it.. Christ, they still haven't even come to grips with the fact that the Chineses created it and their stupidity set the world on fire..

All hail XI, the DNC conqueror of the Trump and the rise of the XIDEN..

Yawn, how many threads do we need on this? Of course, Trumpers now become experts on the literature -- when it is presented to them as political propaganda at Fox News.

    As to the study:
    1) The authors are ECONOMISTS. Not surprising that they would value the economy over public health.
    2) I am suspicious of ANY study that makes clear political statements.
    3) They picked 34 studies out of 18590 total for their analysis. Sounds like cherry picking to me.

Finally, it is hard to argue that lockdowns etc had basically zero effect on covid deaths, when flu deaths went from >30,000 per year to <1,000 in the 20/21 flu season. Of course, leaving out controls is the specialty of economics. It is called "the dismal science" for a reason.

only Faux news would give this air time
    1. Economics paper NOT epidemiology
    2. Unpublished
    3. Unimpressive inclusion criteria for analysis (lumped all interventions into NPIs)
    4. Wide inclusion criteria which would lead to broad heterogeneity making meta analysis moot
    5. Exclusion criteria also appears somewhat subjective
    6. Critical analysis of papers included somewhat subjective

sure they were, they did not create warp speed until the vaccine was already in trials

LOL! You and I both know that we had never heard of the names of these authors before they were thrown in the political arena by Fox News. Therefore, you and I both have ZERO idea about the qualifications/academic reputation of these authors. Second, they are not mathematicians, they are economists. There is actually NO math in the paper, the paper just averages mortality rate reduction that was published in other papers, including only 34 studies, and only 7 of those were used to come up with the 0.2% mortality reduction number. One of those papers came up with a 35% mortality reduction, so the variation in the data is huge. I don't even want to speculate about the most likely much higher mortality reduction numbers in the 1000s of papers that the authors excluded from their analysis. As I said, cherry picking of data.

Second, their own graphs contradict their low mortality rate reduction numbers. What they call "taken by surprise" clearly show much higher death counts in European countries (Belgium, Italy) and US states (NY, NJ), which were hit by covid early, meaning that they didn't have time to lock down. The states with warning locked down and, expectedly, their death counts per million were much lower.

In my view, this paper is garbage (and I have reviewed many scientific manuscripts myself, although not in the epidemiology field). I doubt that actual epidemiologists (not economists) will agree with their conclusions.

Not beaten, but science has given us vaccines and a new drug (paxlovid), which, combined, have reduced the risk to a point that people can live almost normal lives again (once paxlovid becomes widely available, probably in a couple of months from now).

What have the anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers and science deniers done? They only prolong the pandemic by their selfish behavior, they have increased the death toll, and they increase the risk of additional variants emerging. Anti-social behavior, if you ask me.

anti-vaxxers saw the heart inflamation concerns for example and they're like "holy ****, I have a bad heart." And while it's true that catching covid could very well spell the same issue, the oceam's razor is quite simple: I *know*(or at least have an understanding of the risk) that this vaccine could negatively activate my heart. I do not know whether or not I catch covid(anymore than we know we catch the common cold.)

Meanwhile in the latest economic news we find America shed several hundred thousand jobs last month. More pain and suffering for American workers. Lock us down harder. More vaccine mandates. Let's really decimate the economy. I can't imagine the amount of "fortification" the Democrats are going to have to enact to prevent the bloodbath headed their way.

the facts, and what I said was fact, warp speed was created AFTER the vaccine went to trials

the reality was, Pfizer was in trials before Trump set up warp speed

Pfizer started trials in April 2020, Trump talked about creating warp speed on April 29th 2020, after the Vaccine was already created and started trials a week earlier, and warp speed was not created until 3 weeks after the vaccine first went to trials

Phase I–II Trials were started in Germany on 23 April 2020, and in the U.S. on 4 May 2020

Operation Warp Speed was active from May 15, 2020 – February 24, 2021

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Warp_Speed
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pfizer–BioNTech_COVID-19_vaccine

almost like Trump created warp speed after he heard the vaccine entered trials to try and steal some credit

OK. Or we can just compare FL to CA and NY. How about those Death statistics vs economic destruction eh? Same with a few EU countries that didn’t lock people up passed the initial scare.

Proof is in the reality. But you can choose to play ostrich. The fake MSM news were the ones claiming children should be locked away when it was barely worse than a flu for them. Even now when it’s barely worse than a flu for EVERYONE.
