Of course, the US Department of the interior already advocates the removal of scrub growth and ground debris for exactly that purpose.

But then, what the hell does the Forest Service know. Maybe they need to talk to leftists on the internet to find out how to do their job ???

The problem here is that it should have been tens of thousands from almost every Fed agency. The Fed gov is bloated with over paid under worked B'crats.

Fed hiring should be frozen for about 5 years.

True. The government is probably the least efficient employer in the nation. Firing a person is near impossible for the average manager, can take two years of "evidence gathering".
A common practice is a punitive layoff, where a person is suspended for a period- two weeks, even two months.... with pay. Government agencies call that a punishment step. Private industry calls ti a "paid vacation". Another guy who admitted he spent 6 of his 8 hours a day watching porn on his government computer got an efficiency bonus. The above and a lot more comes from a book documenting such things which is authored by a congressman, from Oklahoma I believe. I've also seen it myself in doing business with government.

IF that assumption were true, you should consider that there is nothing government does that could be done by the private sector that can't be done more efficiently by the private sector.
Government is the most expensive way to do anything.

It's like the theme-song of the unmotivated and entitled of today- we do all the work, they make all the money.....
Obviously, you need to start your own business, so you can make all the money. Hock everything you own and jump in.
Only 50% of all new business fails in 5 years or less. Only 90% in ten years or less. It's virtually a sure thing.
You would have plenty of free guidance- your employees will tell you what you are doing wrong, all the time.
One of mine told me that when a project went well and exceeded the expected profit, that was due to great labor and he should get a bonus.
When it went the other way and lost money, that was bad management, and he shouldn't suffer for my mistakes......

Go for it! Best education you will ever have too- as a fringe benefit

:) Yes, owners/CEOs make all the money and shove responsibility for their mistakes onto workers under them...(otherwise they be in jail for hiring illegals)..

Do you really think all businesses that scoop up a "privatized" business are "mom and pop's " ?

Do you really think that the "mom and pop" businesses are what drives the economy?
It's men like Sam Walton, Warren Buffet and that kind that drive the economy, create the growth and jobs that allow everyday people who just want to make a living to have good jobs. The also create the conditions which lower prices, so those same everyday people have more and spend less. They also create the capacity to bring new technology to the world- and things like cell phones to those everday people. Mom and pop stores simply aren't in a position to do that.

The fact that they make money lowering your costs of living and creating jobs for you in not something to complain about- because they have helped you live a better life in the role you have chosen for yourself.
IF you owned for example a chain of grocery stores, the difference between it just staying alive and being a gold mine is ONLY 1%. Great management builds great stores and companies in pursuit of that tiny edge.
Mom and pops go out of business because the customers prefer the benefits that the large corporations can provide. The consumers are the ones that decide who survives.

Envy of those who excel is hardly something with a solid or reasonable foundation- it's ignorance.

As long as those layoffs include those in the DHS and other agencies devoted to the Global War Of Terror, I would agree very much.

Letting the forest guys go is a poor decision and typical of Trump.

You are incorrect. The government expenditure component of GDP includes federal, state and local government. Consumer spending typically runs 65-70% of GDP, Private Investment runs 15%, and Net Exports run negative numbers 3-5%. These numbers have changed very little since WW II.

You can use US Forest Service and BLM lands now, and quite a few people do for hunting, camping, sightseeing, overlanding, and vacations. We've used USFS lands quite a bit, canoeing, backpacking, and car camping, leaving only footprints (no BLM land nearby).

It's mostly free, but as Americans have been getting dirtier and less civilized, dumping their trash on beautiful land and causing uncivil commotion and drunkenness, fees must soon be charged to cover the additional expense and keep the riff raff out.

Really, really stupid ass Americans have been using battery powered tools to cut out ancient Indian art and take it home and otherwise deface natural history -- rangers should be issued a shoot to kill order.

And of course you know about the ultra-dumbest of the dumb ass Americans who die on federal land taking selfies.

Hell, that is not even begining to scratch the surface of what actually needs to happen. The Federal Government needs to be reduced by 80%. Federal employees are the enimy of the American people and the fewer of them the better.

I usually attend the shareholders convention for Berkshire, where Buffet answers any and all questions from shareholders. He was once asked why he had laid off a number of people at a company they recently acquired, and he explained-

"We don't employ 100 people to do the work of 75. That is wasteful and irresponsible. It's not a personal thing; it's a necessary rule to keep a business running efficiently"

Government probably has about 100 people doing the work of 50 in most areas. I don't know about the details of the forest reduction- but that is why we have a businessman in the oval office; to make the call.
Somebody with a tiny fraction of the knowledge needed to understand the decision will always be there with a second guess criticism. Goes with the territory. Part of Trumps agenda is to improve efficiency and cut the fat, and that is something long overdue.

btw if I understand correctly Texas has no federal BLM or USNF land because it came into the Union as not a mere territory becoming a state or states, but as a completely separate country and refused federal ownership of land.

I absolutely agree, we have a National Guard to protect our borders from illegals trying to obtain entry through unauthorized locations.
As far as Trump personally picking who stays and who goes, I hope you are smarter than that.

No kidding! And even then there would still be one idiot to dig the hole and another to put the post in the hole and one more to FILL THE hole while a foreman and supervisor hold a cup of coffee and watch!!

And as much as that sounds like a joke! It's pretty much the Gods truth with state, city and county workers!

Paying tax payer funded workers is the
    Perfect!

And to make things worse, most state highway projects are farmed out to companies equipped and manned to complete a project quicker and cheaper whereas state, county and city workers are slow, unequipped and never get a job done in a reasonable time frame..

The problem is we are currently paying to have the job done privately, efficiently and still have a stable of useless federal, state, county and city workers just milking the clock! Not to mention the millions of them drawing a Generous retirement some starting as soon as 55yro..
