I am going to answer that with a long reply. I coffee with man who has sold power cable, lighting and light poles for office parking lots, highways, and freeways his entire life. When obama's "shovel ready jobs" were touted as the greatest, his business boomed. They dug up the freeway lighting and moved the new pole over 5' and replaced the sodium lights with the next most efficient iteration of sodium lighting. He said they could have just replaced the bulbs but that would have caused them to not spend all the money shovelled into the project by obama's stimulus program. Total amount to labor that went into moving each pole? Two people, one to operate drill on the truck and set the breakaway pad, and one to operate the crane that lifted the pole in place. the crane and one to watch. The wire guy came a couple of days later. It was interesting to drive down the freeway and see a perfectly good aluminium poles laying right beside the newly installed ones.

The timing is especially ominous considering what happened to forested areas last year.

And it's been this way so long no one even notices the wasted money! That's why Trump is so unique, he thinks in dollars and cents and grew up in construction, labor and business cost! Only problem is he is faced with the leftist that actually believe it takes five people to set a pole LMFAO :)

If he could increase that number by 10x, maybe we'll get somewhere.

Government is far too big and wasteful as it is.

Start with the military. Using your numbers, we'd save a ton of tax payer dollars.

Has to start or be announce at some time, clearly it isn't something that's enjoyable to hear! But it's hard to debate that government bloat is a huge problem and a waste of federal, state and city funds.. I suppose we could lay off teachers or stop giving them raises if that would satisfy ;)

Sounds like a high percentage of conservation officers. That said - I agree that we need to reduce the civil service in general.

Next should be a similar percentage reduction to the military. In fact the Military percentage should be greater as conservation of our forests is far more important that fighting alongside Al Qaeda in the Middle East.

What's the matter? Don't you get a generous retirement benefit from your employer?

I would have preferred we start with politicians or something that is unlikely to end up killing citizens, destroying property and burning down public lands.

I have more faith in private business, I don't see much Government logging companies and those private companies do a pretty good job of harvesting public land and reclamation..

There are many; most interesting reads are those from members of congress reporting wasteful policies and actions. Here's a couple links to stories on them, with more information on the books themselves. New one come out every year- same story, different players.

I agree. Pull everything out of the mid-east and station them on the US northern and southern borders.

The thing that really torques my jaws is that they'll Repave the street and it never fails that within two months they come along and tear it all up to put in a new sewer line completely destroying the structural integrity of the new street and then complain to the contractor they hired for the street work that the road bed didn't last as long as they claimed it would.

Better yet they will fill all the pot holes with cold mix and soon as it rains or snows it all pops right back out and they have to redo the same friggin holes five time in one summer..
